Gorey rangers hosted vale wanderers in this sfai 3rd round match on a cold beautiful morning. Rangers started the game well and passed the ball around with confidence. The vale girls started to impose themselves on the game and a volley from Kate burke was only inches wide from opening the score.
Half way through the 1st half Gorey attacked down the right wing and the ball was floated in and latched on by the rangers Centre forward who drove the ball low into the vale net.
Half time:1 nil to Gorey.
The big moment in the 2nd half came in the 2nd minute when a lack of concentration in the vale defence let rangers through on goal and the ball was buried into the back of the net.
Vale tried hard to reduce the score line and Zoe Clarke was unlucky not to get on the end of a corner.
Rangers went 5 at the back and soaked up anymore vale advances, all the while having some good chances of the own. Vale’s keeper Amy Farrell pulled off a great save near the end to keep rangers from adding to the scoreline.
The game ended 2 nil to the home side.
Best for vale were moya o’Toole, Chloe Lawlor and Zoe Clarke.
The game was played at a very high level and both teams were a credit to themselves.
Vale wanderers would like to thank Gorey rangers for their hospitality and wish them the best of luck in the rest of the competition.
