Burrin score 3 in five minutes to progress
The match of the season was Burrin Celtic v Park Rangers in the SFAI Cup. Two well drilled teams met in Burrin on a freezing cold Saturday morning. Glen Cantwell scored a screamer after 10 minutes to put Burrin 1-0 up. The two teams played some really good football and created a lot of chances. Burrin largely dominated the first half and could have scored more. Park Rangers scored their equaliser just before the half time break to make it 1-1 at half time. Burrin came out fighting in the second half and took their chance when Robbie Kelliher put burrin ahead. Both teams played cautiously from here but Park Rangers scored with just a few minutes to go and to bring the game into extra time. The first half of extra time was all the away side and they went 3-2 after 65 minutes. They carried the momentum into the second half of extra time and went 4-2 up and thought the game was over from here. After a few changes from Burrin here and an unbelievable fighting spirit, the home side looked like they got a new lease of life. Glen Cantwell went Down in the box and got a penalty, which he converted to make it 4-3. With just 4 minutes to go, the man of the match Bill Roberts was through on goal after Ciaran Redmond played the ball through the away side, and Bill slotted it past the keeper. Park Rangers thought they won the game after the keeper was off his line and a shot on goal but Sean Dunne with a goal line clearance gave Burrin even more momentum. With just 2 minutes to go, Bobby Finn played the same ball through to Bill Roberts and he slotted it home to progress Burrin to the next round. An absolutely amazing game for both sides, with every player, parent and coach going through so many emotions in the final minutes. Credit to both teams for their performance after a long game. Man of the match was Ballons Bill Roberts, but also excelling we’re Daire Nolan, Ciaran Redmond and Glen Cantwell.
