Bagenalstown AFC 1 - 0 St Patrick's Boys AFC

A frosty morning saw Bagenalstown AFC welcome St Patrick's Boys AFC to the McGrath park. Both teams played exceptional soccer in the first half. ST Patrick's had opportunities in the first half from a stream of corners but Kyle Lyons, Sean Dillion and CJ McDonnell defended well to keep st Patrick's Boys from scoring. Niall Power played well for bagenalstown in the forwards and had opportunities to try put his team in the lead but st Patrick's defence played well to keep the scoreline at half time Bagenalstown 0 St Patrick's Boys AFC 0. The second half was nail bitting to watch. Both teams attacked and defended exceptionally. With about 10 mins to go Bagenalstown AFC got the break they fought so hard for and Jake Mcassey put the ball in the back of the net putting his team in the lead. ST Patrick's fought back hard and had opportunities from corners to try pull both teams level but David Reddy and Sean Dillon defended these corners well keeping st Patrick's at bay. After a very interesting match the scoreline at full time Bagenalston AFC 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC 0.

This was short lived as Slaney Rovers answered back shortly after putting the teams level.. Killeshin AFC 11 - 1 Burrin Celtic AFC
A cold, frosty morning at the Quakers saw Killeshin U12 girls secure a fine win against a hard working Burrin Celtic team. Killeshin started out well and quickly racked up some early scores with a hat-trick from Cara English and four for Ciara Milton, one of those as result of a fine penalty taken as result of a heavy tackle on Ciara in the opposition's box. The second half saw Burrin Celtic come out strong and Leah Mannion scored a great goal, putting her team on the score board. Relentless defending from Tara Dowling, Emma Malone and Katie Lowry denied the visitors further scores. Another four for Ciara sealed the deal, resulting with the final score of 11-1 to Killeshin AFC. Standing out for Burrin Celtic were Sarah Duffy and the goal scorer Leah Mannion. Overall strong team performance with Tara Dowling, Mollie O Neill, Ciara Milton and captain Katie Kehoe standing out for Killeshin. Well done to all.

St Fiacc's AFC 1 - 1 Nurney Villa AFC

Fiaccs 1 Nurney 1

In this top of the table clash, St Fiaccs started the stronger with alot of possession. However it was Nurney who scored first in the 18th minute with a good finish from Sarah Murphy. Fiaccs created a few chances before halftime but couldn't finish them. It remained this way til halftime. Again Fiaccs had a lot of possession in the second half with Nurney trying to catch Fiaccs on the break and it took an injury time equaliser from Leah Cummins for St Fiaccs to get what they deserved with the last kick of the game to help keep them just ahead of Nurney at the top of the table.

Best for St Fiaccs were Leah Cummins, Abbey O Shea and Hannah Matthews while Roisin Murphy, Hannah Carroll and Rebecca Birmingham played well for Nurney.

Vale girls and Joeys share the points
18/01 12:30
Vale Wanderers AFC Pink 2 - 2 St Joseph's AFC
With the exception of a cold frosty morning this game was played in perfect conditions on Vales astro pitch. From the first minute this game sparked into life with strong running, last ditch defending and some feisty challenges. All this was very well controlled by Carlow league and vales club lady referee who deserves a special mention. With both teams creating and passing up some chances the opening goal didn't seem to be far away. After fifteen minutes of the first half the game really started to open up, Joeys were starting to take control and were rewarded after a through ball was finished past the excellent Amy Farrell in the vale goal by Mikey Byrne. With confidence growing in the Joeys team they were really pushing for the second goal until Bronagh Nolan got on the ball in midfield and played the perfect pass over the top for the ever present Clodagh Lawlor to volley past the advancing Joeys goalkeeper. This act brought the half time whistle. The second half started much like the first at one hundreth miles per hour, again it was Joeys who were doing the pressing. This pressure paid off and after a well worked team move was finished off from close range by James carpenter. The VALE girls took issue with this and Bronagh Nolan grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, her strong running was now creating her own chances and havoc for the Joeys defence. It was at the end of one of these trade mark runs she passed to Kellie Dermody on the edge of the box, Dermody rifled home with the outside of her right foot low and hard to the Joeys net. Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result. Best for Joeys was Reece Mc Canny. Vale had an outstanding squad performance spearheaded by Bronagh Nolan, Katie Brennan, Alisha Conron and Amy farrell.

u12 league div 2 18/01 11:30
Milltown United AFC 2 - 1 Nurney Villa AFC

Miltown United won this game 2-1 showing dreamt determination to hold out a game Nurney Villa side.

Nurney opened brightly and created some chances with some nice passing football. They were rewarded in the 12rh minute when a quick ball into Billy Konsowlas, on the edge of the Miltown box, allowed him time to place a shot past the advancing Miltown keeper for the games opening score. This kick started Miltown into life and 4 minutes later the hard working Alex Carroll scored a super goal to level the game 1-1.

Both side were creating chances and playing well but once again it was Coast Cahill who produced the winning goal in the 24th minute to put Miltown 2-1 ahead at the break.

Although there was no score for either side in the second half there was lots of excitement for the supporters. It was end to end stuff with Miltown looking to get another score to kill off the game and Nurnuy trying to get an equaliser. Both defenses stood tall and despite some great chances and lots of endeavour the game ended 2-1 to Miltown. Best on the day for Nurney were Tony Nolan,Darragh Nolan and Billy Ryan.

For Miltown this truly was a team effort with a special mention for Darragh Fitzgerald for some brilliant tackling and also the Redmond brothers Jamie and Darragh.
