Burrin Celtic AFC 6 - 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC

In a first half goal fest, Burrin put 5 past St Pats in the first competitive game of the season. Robbie Kelliher got Burrin ahead after 5 minutes with a cool finish into the corner. The home side continued to press and play wide and totally dominated. Bobby Finn got Burrin’s second after some good build up play. The home defence was very solid and didn’t let any thing get past them, despite St Pats trying to play some good football. Tadhg Campbell got his first of the day to put Burrin 3 up. Sean Dunne put burrin 4 up and seemed to put the game to bed at this stage. Just before half time Glen Cantwell went around the keeper and had an easy tap in to make it 5-0. After the half time break and a few changes from both sides, Pats looked more dominating and scored after a scramble in the box. Tadhg Campbell got his second and Burrin’s 6th just before full time.

A great overall performance from Burrin, but best 3 players were Daire Nolan, Robbie Kelliher and Tadhg Campbell.

U12 Girls 24/09 11:15
Killeshin AFC 5 - 0 Ballymurphy Celtic
Great first game of the season for killeshin U12s girls . The larger pitch is new to all of the girls playing this year as they advance to the older groups and both teams took it in their stride. Great team play from both sides but it definitely stood out this time round for killeshin with 4 out of the 7 goals coming from assists. Laura Malone starts off the season for killeshin with a hatric followed by Naimh Egan close by with 2 goals and Sarah Milton with her first of the season. Grainne keogh ended the goal scoring of the day with a strong boot behind the ball bursting it into the back of the net. Ballymurphy had two attempts on goals in the first half but both were saved by goalkeeper Emma Conway O'Regan. Killeshin woman of the match this game is Laura Malone with 3 goals ,2 assists and some amazing passing .

U15 SFAI 24/09 13:15
St Patrick's Boys AFC A 0 - 1 Slievenamon Celtic

St. Pats 0 Slievenamon Celtic 1

A brilliant game of football between two very even sides. Pats started the better and were playing some very good football. It was attack after attack for the first 20 mins with some great play from Eanna Donigan on the right had side who crossed a great ball into the box only for Mikey Whelan to rattle the crossbar. Slievenamon then started to get a hold in midfield and started to create some chances but the Pats defence held out to leave it 0-0 at half time.

Second half started and both teams were playing some good football. There was a mix up in the Pats defence and the Slievenamon striker slotted home to make it 1-0. Pats didn't give up a threw everything at them. Pats scored a perfectly good equaliser only for the ref to rule it out for offside. Pats kept trying and hit the post on numerous occasions but it was one of those days where the ball just wouldn't go into the net. Even though the scoreline didn't go Pats way they played some excellent football and on any other day would have scored 4 or 5. Take nothing away from Slievenamon they worked hard and got their rewards. Best of luck to them for the rest of the competition.

A very good team performance from all the Slievenamon players.

Best for Pats - Warrith, Eoghan Kavanagh & Mark Buggy.

Mooncoin Celtic v Bagenalstown AFC
Mooncoin Celtic v Bagenalstown AFC
U15 SFAI 24/09 12:30

Mooncoin welcomed bagenalstown this morning in the first Round of the sketchers cup. With the presentation of flowers for the recent death of bagenalstown man sean Clarke the game soon got under way with bagenalstown setting the tempo and moving the ball around well. Bagenalstown started to ask questions of the mooncoin defence and getting their shots off only to be kept at bay by outstanding mooncoin goalkeeper. The deadlock was finally broken when john Lillis found the net with a low shot from the edge of the box 5 mins later dean o'Sullivan added bagenalstown second goal soon after jake mcassey sent a looping shot going to the far corner Lillis rose the highest to nod in for his second 3-0 halftime the second half started on the same way with the town on the front foot straight away the ball got worked down the left side and eventually playing in sean Darcy who took his goal well soon after James brennan and jake mcassey played a quick one two releasing brennan's who made no mistake and fired home bagenalstown kept attacking only to be denied again and again by the outstanding mooncoin goalkeeper. Later on from a corner kick the ball broke to dean o'Sullivan who slotted home from close range for his second .and with the game almost up Danny travers who worked tirelessly went on one of his runs turned one way then the other and coolly tucked his shot away final score 7-1 to the town. Bagenalstown defenders all had strong performances both aJames brennan dean o'Sullivan and john Lillis worked tirelessly in midfield same as jake mcassey up front who ended up with 4 assists

All in all great team performance by the town

Hanover Harps AFC v Parkville United AFC
U13 Div 2 24/09 11:00
Hanover Harps AFC 3 - 1 Parkville United AFC

Hanover Harps U13 black team started off their first game in the league with a hard fought win against Parkville, the game was played in great spirit by both teams, other than a couple of off sides, the ref had very little to do. Parkville took the lead around the 20min mark with a well taken goal by Donnacha Myres.Hanover finally got the equalizer with only seconds left in the half with a goal from Luka Galvin.

In the 2nd half Hanover Harps took more control of the game and pinned Parkville back for long periods of time in their own half. it took until the 45th min before Hanover could break down Parkville defense, special mention here for keeper Bradley Stynes who made some magnificent saves.the breakthrough goal finally came from Tristan Cotter and the final goal came from an outstanding Rhys Walker with a solo run just after the 52 min.

A great effort from both teams but today was Hanover Harps day.

An all round great performance from both teams

U12 Girls 24/09 13:00
New Oak Boys AFC 1 - 4 St Fiacc's AFC

New Oak hosted St. Fiacc's in today's lunchtime Kick-off. From the first whistle it was a very competitive game. St Fiacc's had the better of the early exchanges and their pressure eventually saw them take the lead when Cara Harris Morgan was the quickest to react and score from close range, 1-0 to St Fiacc's.

After a string of fine saves from the New Oak keeper Katie Nolan, New Oak began to build themselves into the game. Great work by Daisy Cooney for the home side, through her perseverance helped New Oak to equalise when Emily Carpenter smashed the ball to the back of the net. 1-1

Cara Shields had an outstanding game at the centre of defence for New Oak but her efforts couldn't stop St. Fiacc's taking the lead again, the second goal scored by Evie Stynes as her shot evaded the New Oak keeper. St. Fiacc's kept the pressure on and grabbed a third just before half time, a neat finish from Lily Monaghan. 3-1 to St Fiacc's at the break.

The second half was even closer than the first, great work from Lucy Lawlor and Saidbhe Lyons in midfield kept New Oak in the game and great defending from

Alyssa Brophy and Faye Dalton kept the skillful St Fiaccs players at bay until 5 minutes from time when Evie Stynes found the back of the net for her second and St Fiacc's fourth to bring the scoreline to 4-1. Great finished from Stynes.

A great battle to start the season for both teams, good win for St Fiacc's and plenty of positives for New Oak to take from the game.

Best for New Oak Lucy Lawlor, Faye Dalton and Cara Shields

Best for St Fiacc's Ellie Maher, Lexi Hernan and Amelia Edwards

U12 Girls 24/09 12:45
Vale Wanderers AFC 3 - 0 Burrin Celtic AFC

The Super Bowl, leighlinbridge, hosted this girls U12’s game between 2 teams on their 1st outing of the season.

The game started off at a fast pace with both teams trying to break the deadlock. Burrin had an early chance that was well collected by the excellent vale keeper Jane Murphy.

Half way through the 1st half, vale started to pile on the pressure and were awarded with a great goal from Alysha Nolan, who was a constant threat up front for vale.

Burrin searched for an equalizer and played some great soccer but couldn’t break down the vale defence.

Half time: 1 nil to vale.

The second half was really end to end, and Burrin were well in the game but Sophie skedgwell was on top of her game and was proving hard to beat at the heart of the vale defence.

Half way through the second half vale doubled their lead after Robyn Kennedy played a lovely pass through to Alesha Nolan who slotted home her 2nd goal of the game.

Burrin’s No.5 and No. 8 tried hard to claw back a goal but with only a few minutes left Sophie Rochford secured the win for vale with an excellent strike on goal.

The match ended 3 nil to vale.

The Burrin girls were very unlucky and it won’t be long before their winning games.

It was an excellent win for vale and all the girls played brilliant.

The game was a credit to both teams and all the girls should be very proud of themselves.

Vale Wanderers AFC v St Joseph's AFC
Back with a bang!
U13 Div 2 24/09 11:30
Vale Wanderers AFC 4 - 5 St Joseph's AFC

The U13 season opener for Division 2 served up a cracker of a match.

Vale, entering a team in Div2 which was supported today by four U12s stepping up, played their part in a very entertaining game and were unfortunate not to get at least a point.

Despite conceding early, they equalised with a well worked move. But then switched off and conceded almost immediately... despite pushing forward they couldn't find an equaliser and went in 1-2 down at half-time.

The second half was nip and tuck at the start but Joeys scored again to go 1-3 up.

To be fair to the Vale lads, the heads never dropped and a brilliant performance from Romeo Sithibe saw him grab a hat-trick and an assist, setting up Bill Hayden for a close range finish.

Despite scoring 4 goals, Joeys had grabbed 5 and Vale tried hard but could not find an equaliser to share the points.

Vale Scorers:

Romeo Sithibe x3

Bill Hayden

St Joseph's scorers:

Dan Kehoe

Sean McNally x2

Philip Adamczyl x2

Best for Vale were hat- trick hero Romeo Sithibe, Captain Josh Dermody and Adam Keating.

Best for the winners were Sean Reid, Tadhg Deane and Rian Nolan

New Oak Boys AFC v Slaney Rovers AFC
Thrilling high scoring draw
U13 Div 2 24/09 11:30
New Oak Boys AFC 4 - 4 Slaney Rovers AFC

A great morning for football on the Burrin Rd saw 2 evenly matched teams play out a 4-4 draw.

New started brightly and took the lead 4 minutes in when Phoenix Lawlor passed the ball down the line to Evan Glynn who cut in on his left foot and hit a great shot into the roof of the net.

On 7 minutes Gabriel De Sa doubled New Oak’s lead with looping shot after a fine pass from Luana Whelan.

On 11 minutes Slaney pulled one back with a great strike from the right through their number 11 who had a fine game.

On 14 minutes Joshua Crosby found De Sa with a pass who beat his marker and finished well the keepers bottom left corner.

Slaney made it 3-2 when the player judged a bouncing ball well and beat the New Oak keeper high in to the roof of the net.

2nd half started with Slaney on top and after 37 minutes they levelled the score with number 11 getting his 2nd from down the right hand side.

Within 2 minutes Slaney had taken the lead for the first time in the match and it was number 11 again who hit he side netting from a tight angle.

Slaney had a few free kicks to extend the lead but to no avail.

New Oak hit the equaliser and final goal of the game when De Sa again latched onto a Crosby pass to beat the keeper from distance.

Best for New Oak were Gabriel De Sa, Michael Myk and Luana Whelan.

Best for Slaney were Number 8, 11 and Kirsten in the back line.

Late late show wins it for Vale
u15 Div 2 24/09 10:00
Vale Wanderers AFC 3 - 2 Ballymurphy Celtic

Vale Wanderers 3 , Ballymurphy Celtic

It was an early morning start but a late late show from Vale to take the 3 points on offer .

Similar to last year's cup quarter final where Ballymurphy prevailed after penalties this time it was the turn of the home side to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. A game which had a breakthrough in the 6 th min with Odhran Murphy finishing low with a well placed drive . Exchanges were tight with Ballymurphy testing Robbie Honeyball with a number of free kicks especially but half time came with no further goals . A second Vale goal was needed to give them breathing space but it just wasn't coming , the visitors mopping up what was thrown at them and mid way through the 2nd period a bullet header from Toby Joyce from a corner made it 1-1 . Ballymurphy sensing victory upped it a gear and were rewarded with a close range finish from Eoin Condron for 2-1 . However with 26 mins gone in the half not unlike their first goal Conor Twomey finished low for 2-2 and then with just 30 mins played Vale were awarded a penalty for handball, Ciaran Bambrick stepping up to net what would prove to be the winner

Best for Vale , Adam Dowling, Radek Brezeniski, Conor Twomey while Ballymurphy were served well by Thomas Sheehan, Eoin Condron and Toby Joyce
