Wicklow v Carlow
Carlow go Top of Inter League
21/03 16:30
Wicklow 0 - 7 Carlow

Carlow approached this top of the table clash with Wicklow looking to consolidate their position after a great victory over Kildare in the previous round of fixtures. Wicklow also won their opening fixture away to NEC so a tough fixture was expected. Carlow were having none of the pre-match hype and tore into Wicklow in the 1st minute forcing the Wicklow Keeper into a great save. Carlow continued pressurising the Wicklow defence and were rewarded after 5 mins when Toriq Adegoke opened the scoring. Wicklow forced a couple of half chances without troubling the Carlow Keeper, Tom Wright. Carlow then struck the forward gears with a fantastic period of play which resulted in 5 goals in 7 mins, 2 from James Smithers before James Esser hit a 4 min hat-trick to leave the Wicklow defence in tatters. The 2nd half continued in the same pattern but with Carlow unable to score despite Mark Foley hitting a post and Sean Tracey striking the post/bar after beating 6 players. James Smithers reappeared to seal his hat-trick with a ferocious drive into the top corner after holding off a Wicklow defender. The match finished 7-0 to Carlow and all players deserve all the plaudits for an outstanding display which puts Carlow in pole position for a Leinster Final. The final group game will be home against NEC on April 10 with a draw to guarantee qualification.

A special mention must be made of the Wicklow players who presented our Team with a signed jersey in memory of Mikey Ryan, who passed away recently. Mikey was involved in the FAI Regional Squad with a lot of the Wicklow players and was coached by some of the Wicklow management. A minutes silence was held and Wicklow also have made a donation to Charity in Mikey's name. We in the Carlow Juveniles League would like to thank the Wicklow League for their help and support in these sad times.

U13 League 26/03 11:15
Burrin Celtic AFC 6 - 0 Hanover Harps AFC

Burrin Celtic won convincingly at home against league leaders Hanover Harps in windy conditions at The Valley. Celtic benefitted from the wind in the first half, keeping their visitors pinned in their own half for long periods. Cian Byrne broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a strike from just inside the box reaching the bottom corner of the Hanover net. Two minutes later, Jamie Behan put his team two up when a corner kick fell to feet in the penalty area and Jamie made no mistake with his finish. A display of skilled free taking followed from Celtic’s centre half, Fionn McCaffrey, as Hanover offences outside the penalty area were punished, resulting in a hat trick to remember for the Burrin Celtic player. Hanover faced an uphill struggle in the second half but to their credit they pressurised Celtic’s defence throughout. However, Celtic players were determined not to concede and they continued to look dangerous on the break. Myles Hutton finished the scoring mid way through the half as he controlled the ball in the box and finished from close range. Best for Burrin Celtic were Lorcan Canavan, Fionn McCaffrey, Jack O’Neill and Cian Brennan. Best for Hanover Harps were Adam McCarron, Bryan McMahon and Alan Geoghegan.
