New Oak Boys AFC 3 - 2 Baltinglass Town AFC

On a dry but blustery morning in New Oak both teams played a cracker of a game. Both teams started strongly in an end to end game of football, both teams with good intent to play the ball when it was on.

Baltinglass hit the front early from a corner on the 15th minute. Oisín McGough with a fine headed effort. New Oak were not perturbed as they pushed Baltinglass back and scored a long range effort from Adam O'Neill. The half finished 1-1.

Both teams played with the same intensity as the second half delivered on its promise of more goals. Michel Ujadughele came on and with his first touches ran down the wing, beating three defenders and put New Oak in front with a well placed effort.

Baltinglass were awarded a penalty soon after for a push in the area. Well taken by Ross Nolan.

The rest of the second half was marked by a period of great football and intent to score by both teams. After a series of good efforts it took a well taken Adam Norton goal to put New Oak in the lead. New Oak partied away a series of Baltinglass attacks to seal their first victory of the Shield.

U-16 league

Bagenalstown 2, Baltinglass Town 0.

With both Towns in good recent form, this was always going to be

a fairly even contest.

Baltinglass dominated the early proceedings, and home defender Liam McDonnell was

forced to clear off the line.

Then, after 10 minutes, Baltinglass again threatened, with Tom Parker hitting the

post with a fine strike.

Bagenalstown steadily improved as the half went on, and took the lead on the stroke

of half time.

Paul Fitzpatrick found James Lillis on the edge of the area, and he turned and found

the net with a fierce low strike.

The second half started, as the first had ended, with a goal from James Lillis.

Baltinglass failed to clear at the back in the first minute, and were duly punished.

The second half in general was high on effort, but low on quality and the home

side took the points with a fine team performance.

Baltinglass saw excellent displays from Adam Kavanagh, Evin Fleming, Tom Parker and Rob McHugh.

Outstanding for Bagenalstown were Liam McDonnell, Paul Fitzpatrick, Cian Kent and Thomas Geoghegan.

Hosts Baltinglass took on MillTown in a fierce match. The two sides were neck and neck the whole first half, both defending very well. A few chances came for both sides before the half but nothing was made of them. Half time saw the game score line at 0-0. Baltinglass started the better of the two in the second half. Chances from Justin Keogh and Ewan Mcrea were just wide or saved by MillTowns keeper. A foul on Ewan by a MillTown defender gave captain Tomas Parker an opportunity to put Baltinglass ahead. He struck a low well driven penalty into the left bottom corner and put the home side ahead. MillTown had a few opportunities to equalise but keeper Adam Kavanagh pulled out some great stops. A few more chances from Peter Wall and Ben Gately were well saved. Baltinglass’ back line held firm and saw out the game. Full time score line Baltinglass 1 MillTown 0.

Best for Baltinglass were: Evin Fleming, Tomas Parker, Peter Wall and Robert McHugh.

Miltown United and Baltinglas Town served up a cracker in Myshall this morning where it finished 3-2 to Baltinglas. Both teams started well and created chances but it was Baltinglas who struck first, in the 9th minute, with an opportunist goal when Reece Quinn Burke took a speculative shot from midfield which deceived the Miltown keeper and ended up in the top corner. But Miltown United were undeterred and scored through a brilliant run and side step from Coady Cahill in the 11th minute. The game really opened up after this and both sides missed good chances until in the 29th minute when Baltinglas’s Christopher O Toole did really well to score despite close attention from the Miltown defence. In the 37th minute Paddy O Connell scored for Baltinglas to make it 3-1 and it looked like game over for Miltown United. But the home team dug deep and despite missing some good chances and a penalty they never gave up. Eventually a great ball from Liam Murphy put Coady Cahill trough again and he showed great pace and skill to make it 3-2 with two minutes left. Try as they might Miltown couldn’t rescue the point and on the final whistle it was smiles all around for the Baltinglas lads.

Best for Miltown we’re Seán Healy, Emer Nolan and Darragh Fitzgearld.

For Baltinglas it was a great overall team effort b
