Vale wanderers and Burrin Celtic girls played out an excellent game in the SuperBowl today. The conditions were unfavorable for a game of soccer with a blustery wind, which Made it very difficult to get the ball down.
Burrin started the game well and dominated the early stages putting vale under a bit of pressure. Leah Mannion started the game well and was pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Eventually vale started to come into the game and went close with a roisin Collins effort that was well saved.
Vale won a free kick on the edge of the box. Chloe Lawlor rattled the crossbar and Sarah devine was on hand to mop up the rebound, putting vale 1 up after 16 minutes.
The rest of the 1st half was very even and ended 1 nil to vale.
Vale started the 2nd half strongly and with 47 minutes gone on the clock, Sarah devine got her 2nd of the match with a close range effort ,doubling vale’s lead.
This seemed to wake Burrin up and they started to dominate possession resulting in a goal for Mia Nolan halfway through the 2nd half.
Straight from the kick off vale made it 3-1 with a nice goal from Kate Burke, vale’s top scorer.
In true Burrin fashion they piled more pressure on the vale defence and the excellent Leah Mannion reduced the deficit to 1 goal with 10 minutes left.
Both teams had more chances but the game finished 3-2 to vale.
It was an excellent game and both teams should be very proud.
Best for Burrin Celtic included Isabel cronnin, Eimear Nolan and India mernagh.
Best for vale were Sarah devine, Chloe Lawlor and Zoe clarke.
