U16 League

Hanover Harps 1

Burrin Celtic 0

Hanover set up a winner takes all encounter with Crettyard after ending Burrin's interest in this seasons U16 league. In what was always going to a tight affair chances were scarce in the first half, Celtic's Dylan McCann at centre back and Jack Curran in the goal dealing with anything Harps threw at them. Free kicks from Cillian McGrath and Ronan Quinlan, both saved by Curran the closest Hanover came in the first half. At the other end Jason Brennan dealt well with a series of Burrin corners just before the break. The second half saw a much improved Harps take to the field and within 10 minutes they had 3 glorious chances to open the scoring. Stephen Smyth was first up as his effort came back off the crossbar, a last ditch tackle in the six yard box halted Jack Dunne before a 20 yard drive from Dylan Doyle smashed off the upright. Just as it appeared that Celtic had weathered the storm Cillian MaGrath drove down the wing from left back and fired home from 25 yards to put Hanover ahead with 20 minutes left. Burrin did try to respond but with Kyle Foley, Daniel Rossiter and Mikee Horohan in mean mood they seldom looked like troubling the Harps goal despite the best efforts of Dylan McCann and Mark Canavan as Hanover held on for a vital 3 points thanks to the efforts of Jack Murphy, Jack Begley, Tyris O'Rock and Pablo Sanz.

Burrin Celtic AFC 0 - 0 St Fiacc's AFC
On a typical windy day at the Valley, this was going to be a case of who could capitalize with the wind and both defenses stood up to the mark.Fiacchs started off as Champions would putting together some nice passages of play with Hannah Kefra,Hannah Mathews and Ali O' Connor combining well to test the Celtic Defence. But Sarah Duffy, Sorcha Kinsella, and Grace O Gorman kept the Fiacchs attack frustrated.Leah Mannion, Ava Bolger and Sophia Slattery came alive and started to pressurize the Fiacchs defence ,Celtics Anna Thronton worked tirelessly up front but couldnt hit the onion sack.In the second half Fiacchs turned the screw but the Celtic defence and the unbelievable Hannah Hutton in goal kept the Celitc goal intact and both sides shared the points.A brilliant game of soccer played on the deck and in great spirit was a great advertisement for Girls soccer in Carlow.

Burrin Celtic won convincingly at home against league leaders Hanover Harps in windy conditions at The Valley. Cian Byrne broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a strike from just inside the box reaching the bottom corner of the Hanover net. Two minutes later, Jamie Behan put his team two up when a corner kick fell to feet in the penalty area and Jamie made no mistake with his finish. Hanover faced an uphill struggle in the second half but to their credit they pressurised Celtic’s defence throughout. However, Celtic players were determined not to concede and they continued to look dangerous on the break. St Patrick's Boys AFC 00 1 - 2 Burrin Celtic AFC

Pat’s started well and had the ball in the Burrin Celtic net within 3 minutes direct from a brilliant Andrew Kehoe free kick only to see it disallowed for offside. The home side kept the pressure up but couldn’t find the net. Burrin Celtic were defending well and looked dangerous on the break. Pat’s couldn’t regain their initial momentum however and struggled to get their passing game going. On 37 minutes the ball fell to a Burrin Celtic player in the box and his shot squeezed in to the bottom corner. The score stayed at 0 -1 until half time.

Pat’s raised the tempo after half time and came out strongly playing some good football. On 43 minutes, a good ball by Andrew Kehoe found Jack Malone whose shot rebounded off the keeper into the path of the incoming Lord Amponsa Afrifa, who made no mistake with his finish to score the 100th league goal of the season for Pat’s. It was all Pat’s at this stage and Burrin Celtic were hanging on, but Pat’s missed a number of good chances, which was to ultimately cost them dearly. A tackle in the Pat’s area on Diarmaid Ruth saw him receive a lengthy period of treatment and he had to be substituted. Centre half Jack Mitchell also had to leave the pitch after recurrence of a recent injury. Pat’s tried hard to regain the initiative, but couldn’t get the tempo of the game back up and on 73 minutes a superb free kick was driven home by Burrin Celtic to put the visitors ahead again. Pat’s launched attack after attack for the last few minutes but couldn’t find an equalizer and Burrin Celtic held on to take all three points.

Best for Pat’s: Andrew Kehoe, Thomas Sheehan, Idris Jimoh

Best for Burrin Celtic: A great team performance
