Hanover Harps 1

Burrin Celtic 0

Hanover set up a winner takes all encounter with Crettyard after ending Burrin's interest in this seasons U16 league. In what was always going to a tight affair chances were scarce in the first half, Celtic's Dylan McCann at centre back and Jack Curran in the goal dealing with anything Harps threw at them. Free kicks from Cillian McGrath and Ronan Quinlan, both saved by Curran the closest Hanover came in the first half. At the other end Jason Brennan dealt well with a series of Burrin corners just before the break. The second half saw a much improved Harps take to the field and within 10 minutes they had 3 glorious chances to open the scoring. Stephen Smyth was first up as his effort came back off the crossbar, a last ditch tackle in the six yard box halted Jack Dunne before a 20 yard drive from Dylan Doyle smashed off the upright. Just as it appeared that Celtic had weathered the storm Cillian MaGrath drove down the wing from left back and fired home from 25 yards to put Hanover ahead with 20 minutes left. Burrin did try to respond but with Kyle Foley, Daniel Rossiter and Mikee Horohan in mean mood they seldom looked like troubling the Harps goal despite the best efforts of Dylan McCann and Mark Canavan as Hanover held on for a vital 3 points thanks to the efforts of Jack Murphy, Jack Begley, Tyris O'Rock and Pablo Sanz.

Burrin dig deep to share the spoils
Girls u12 07/03 11:00
Burrin Celtic AFC 0 - 0 St Fiacc's AFC
On a typical windy day at the Valley, this was going to be a case of who could capitalize with the wind and both defenses stood up to the mark.Fiacchs started off as Champions would putting together some nice passages of play with Hannah Kefra,Hannah Mathews and Ali O' Connor combining well to test the Celtic Defence. But Sarah Duffy, Sorcha Kinsella, and Grace O Gorman kept the Fiacchs attack frustrated.Leah Mannion, Ava Bolger and Sophia Slattery came alive and started to pressurize the Fiacchs defence ,Celtics Anna Thronton worked tirelessly up front but couldnt hit the onion sack.In the second half Fiacchs turned the screw but the Celtic defence and the unbelievable Hannah Hutton in goal kept the Celitc goal intact and both sides shared the points.A brilliant game of soccer played on the deck and in great spirit was a great advertisement for Girls soccer in Carlow.

Very tough conditions for a game here today in Ballon. Burrin with a strong wind behind them started strong and put the Vale defence under pressure but Vale responded well and with the long ball had the Burrin defence scrambling numerous times but it was the home side that took the lead when a bit of a goal mouth scramble ended with Ruslan Medvedev slotting the ball into an empty net, Vale got back level when a wayward ball in the Burrin defence found Aaron Murphy on his own and he finished with confidence to leave it 1 1 at half time. The second half started much like the first with both sides threatening but not creating anything clear cut but when another clearance from the Burrin defence deflected off Conor Kavanagh and still with lots to do he took the ball forward and beat the keeper 1 v 1 to take all the points. Best for Vale were David Connely and Cianan Nolan. Best for Burrin were Aaron Dowling and Ruslan Medvedev.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 1 St Joseph's AFC
On a day for kites this match was as the old cilche goes a game of 2 halves. Burrin started against the wind and Joe's used it cleverly to their advantage. But good hands from Ava Bolger kept Joe's at bay on a few accasions but on the 20th minute Lola Long broke the deadlock with a cracker. Burrin responded immediately and a rasper from Leah Mannion leveled the teams. Second half saw Burrin dominate possession and only for great goalkeeping from Ailish Stafford should have pulled away. Abbey Donaghy and Alex Hennessy working doggedly in defence, but great work from Anna Thornton, Julia Crawford, Grace ó Gorman and Caoimhe Dempsey saw Mannion in to finish the play with a neat bottom corner of the net finish. Joe's responded but Sarah Duffy, Emma Klejnowska and Bella Corr were in no mood for losing with great defending to see Celtic over the line. Brilliant play from both teams on a miserable day.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 2 Nurney Villa AFC
it was a very blustery day in Ballon here today which made for difficult conditions for football but Burrin started very well playing against a strong wind and settled into a good rythem. The home side put Nurney under a lot of pressure but couldnt create anything clear cut Nurney all the time looking dangerous on the break but neither side could break the deadlock and it finished 0 0 at the break. Burrin started the second half superbly and had Nurney under all sort of pressure and it looked only a matter of time before they scored and with just under 10 minutes gone in the half they took the lead when the Nurney keeper couldnt hold onto a shot the ball was finished by Kurt Rothwell.Burrin still piled on the pressure and looked sure to double their lead but were caught out by a Nurney break away and it was 1 1. This seemed to spur Nurney on and they pushed for a second and were rewarded soon after when another break away saw them make it 2 1, Burrin rallied though and were determined to get something from the game and eventually all their pressure paid off when Edward o Byrne struck to leave it 2 2 at the end, Great credit to both sides for a very entertaining game played in difficult conditions.
