Burrin Celtic AFC 6 - 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC

In a first half goal fest, Burrin put 5 past St Pats in the first competitive game of the season. Robbie Kelliher got Burrin ahead after 5 minutes with a cool finish into the corner. The home side continued to press and play wide and totally dominated. Bobby Finn got Burrin’s second after some good build up play. The home defence was very solid and didn’t let any thing get past them, despite St Pats trying to play some good football. Tadhg Campbell got his first of the day to put Burrin 3 up. Sean Dunne put burrin 4 up and seemed to put the game to bed at this stage. Just before half time Glen Cantwell went around the keeper and had an easy tap in to make it 5-0. After the half time break and a few changes from both sides, Pats looked more dominating and scored after a scramble in the box. Tadhg Campbell got his second and Burrin’s 6th just before full time.

A great overall performance from Burrin, but best 3 players were Daire Nolan, Robbie Kelliher and Tadhg Campbell.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 1 New Oak Boys AFC

Burrin Celtic played host to New Oak Boys in The Valley as the under 12 season kicked off on Saturday morning.

Early pressure came on from the home side with several threatening corners sent in by Robbie Kelleher. Burrin were unable to convert those chances into goals which spurred New Oak into action.

Chances continued to go a begging for both sides until newly introduced substitute Harry Glynn got the ball over the goal line from short range.

From the beginning the resilient Celtic back line made it very difficult for the away team to get through on goal and took the sting out of the attack before they could test the home keeper.

Half Time: 1-0

Some good attacking play down the left wing by New Oak opened up a few opportunities but again chances were squandered over the bar or too close to the keeper.

With 15 minutes to go Glenn Cantwell finished off a nice passing move slotting the ball into the back of the net to put Celtic 2–0 ahead.

Far from putting their heads down, New Oak upped their game and within five minutes had it back to 2-1 through a nice low strike from Blake O Grady making for a nail biting last 10 minutes. Both teams again could have increased the score line in the last two minutes but Celtic held out for a good win following a strong team performance in a very close fought battle.

Notable performances for the visitors came from Eli Slevin, Quinn Morrisey and Karen Jackson

With just 10 minutes to go fiacc's were on the attack and looking for goal but Burrin's defence and good goal keeping kept fiacc's out until the last minute of the 2nd half where Shane Kelly scored fiacc's 2nd goal.

Ending 2-2 at full time. Extra time had to be played.

Just minutes into extra time Dylan O'Reilly took a free from outside the box to find Frankie Fitzgerald's head but unfortunately hit the bar.

Burrin Celtic completed the U14 league and cup double by beating Parkville United in the cup final. Celtic were favourites going into the fixture after winning the Div 1 league but Parkville were deserved finalists after a terrific cup run.

Burrin quickly went into the lead with Edward O’Byrne scoring after some good play by Charlie Clarke. Matthew Drought then put Celtic two goals ahead with a fine long range effort. Parkville didn’t let their heads drop though and came back into the game. However Burrin were just too strong and three more goals from Edward O’Byrne and another from Evan Kelliher left the score 6-0 to the Division 1 league champions at half time.

Both sides made changes in the second half and the game continued to play out the same as the first half with Burrin creating chances. Six more goals came through Aaron Kelly, James Bergin, Kyle Connolly, Kyle Maloney, Edward O’Byrne and Evan Kelliher, to leave the score 12-0 to Burrin Celtic.

The Parkville players responded to the crowd cheering them on and kept fighting for every ball right up to the final whistle. Burrin Celtic completed a memorable year and added the cup to their league trophy.

Noah Cullen was awarded man of the match but it could’ve been anyone from 6 or 7 Celtic players with Charlie Clarke, Edward O’Byrne and Matthew Drought particularly impressing.

Burrin Celtic and Ballymurphy Celtic entertained their supporters with eighty minutes of football in this U12 cup final. Burrin started brightly, putting Bobby Finn through on goal in the early minutes. However, Ballymurphy keeper and man of the match, Jack Ivers, narrowed to angle to deny Burrin an early lead. Ballymurphy settled into the game and came close to taking the lead themselves when a headed ball from a corner kick rebounded off the Burrin crossbar. Ballymurphy had their best spell early in the second half but couldn’t find a way through as Burrin’s defenders stayed organised and composed. Burrin were on the front foot as the half progressed but likewise Ballymurphy’s defence was strong and compact giving up few shooting opportunities. As players tired, Burrin came close to breaking the deadlock late in extra time but the final whistle came too soon and the game finished 0-0. The game was decided on penalties and Ballymurphy came out on top with a 3-2 win. Full credit to all players for their part in a most entertaining and enjoyable final.
