St. Fiaccs 1 V Burrin Celtic 0

A tough game this morning played in difficult, winter like conditions out in Knockbeg College. The first half was an even contest with both sides probing and looking to gain the upper hand in the game. Chances were few and far between but both goalkeepers, Cody Tucker for Fiaccs and Dylan Cunningham for Burrin, had to be alert and make important saves. The deadlock was finally broken after 20 minutes, with Shane Kelly and the lively Sean Lydon-Hennessy combining to cross into the box for captain for the day, Lucas O’Neill, to head home to make it 1-0 to St. Fiaccs.

St. Fiaccs came out with an extra vigour and much improved in the second half and began to create more chances, with the excellent Calin Iancu and Shane Grant pulling the strings in midfield. Patrick O’Connor’s pin point crosses kept the pressure on the Burrin defence, causing them all sort of headaches and with the introduction of Rian Ayres up front to pair with Dylan Murphy the chances were starting to build up for St. Fiaccs in search of that elusive second goal that never came. The away side had a couple of chances to create a nervy last few minutes for St. Fiaccs but the back line of Rob Coleman, Aidan Bradley, the impressive Josh Clear and Ryan Donnelly-Finn held strong and never gave an inch to see out the clean sheet and a deserved 1-0 win.

All around, a much improved team performance by St. Fiaccs with special mention to Josh Clear, Calin Iancu and Rob Coleman.

Best for Burrin Celtic were Dylan Cunningham in goals, Johnny Maher in defence and the lively Dylan Ruane.

In a hard fought match it was Nurney who would come out on top. Nurney took the lead in the 13th min with a superb finish to the top corner by Eamon Lalor. After this only minor chances were created by either team and most of Burrin's efforts were easily dealt with by Anthony Dermody in the Nurney goal who earned his 1st clean sheet of the year. Despite the best efforts of Lalor, Padraig 0'Brien, Shane Farrell and Cian Meaney to add a 2nd goal they were held out by a solid Burrin defence. Nurney Captain Manus Murphy done an excellent job of protecting his back line in the final quarter when asked to step into the role, stopping multiple attacks. Burrin Celtic came close to the equaliser in the closing minutes from a corner, the ball landed in the small box and with numerous player's from both teams having chances at it, it was some how cleared. The Nurney back line of Josh Kearney, Adam Kelly, Senan Dermody and Arron Coogan had great games to earn the win for Villa.
