28/01 16:30
Burrin Celtic AFC 0 - 2 Tramore

This was a great game of football with both teams keeping possession really well. Tramore started the better and nearly went 1 up after 10 minutes but Bill Roberts with a brilliant goal line clearance kept the game scoreless. Burrin hit the post in the first half with a chance from Bobby Finn. Both teams went more attacking in the second half with tramore scoring their first after 40 minutes with a nice finish into the corner. Burrin piled the pressure on from here but the keeper wasn’t tested. Tramore scored their second with minutes to go and against the run of play. Burrin can be very proud of how they played.

Man of the match was Burrin’s Colm Donald who did not let Tramore play through the middle.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 1 St Fiacc's AFC

A contender for game of the season in Ballon this morning saw two outstanding teams playing to a very high level. The first half was a tight affair with chances few and far between as the midfield battle between Burrins Una McFarland and Fiaccs Hannah Mathews was a joy to watch then a great chance falling to Fiaccs Ashlee Smith but Abby Keppel in the Burrin goal made an outstanding save to keep the score nil/nil at half time.

The second half saw Burrin start strong with Eimear Bolger leading the line and her hold up play caused problems for the Fiaccs defence.

Midway through the half the ball fell to Lucy Kinsella on the edge of the 18 yard box she took the ball on her right foot then on to her left and drilled the ball into the goal to give Burrin a well deserved one nil lead.

Fiaccs showed their fighting spirit and came back strongly with Ali O Connor showing her quality and their play saw a ball over the top and Hannah Matthews hit a looping shot over the on rushing keeper to make it one all.

Kate Kearns was marshalling her defence brilliantly for Burrin and Anna Cullen fighting for every ball for Burrin to get back into the lead.

With ten minutes left Eimear Bolger, Lucy Kinsella combined to feed Keelie Doyle and she raced through to make it 2-1 to Burrin. A few minutes later another Burrin break saw Sophia Slattery just shoot wide after some great play around the Fiaccs box.

A great game played by both sides and well refereed by Artur Bienko and everyone supporting saw the level of girls soccer in Carlow is at a very high standard.

Best for Burrin Aoife Bergin, Caoimhe Dempsey, Eimear Bolger, Lucy Kinsella and Una McFarland

U16 Girls 14/01 11:00
Vale Wanderers AFC 3 - 2 Burrin Celtic AFC

Vale wanderers and Burrin Celtic girls played out an excellent game in the SuperBowl today. The conditions were unfavorable for a game of soccer with a blustery wind, which Made it very difficult to get the ball down.

Burrin started the game well and dominated the early stages putting vale under a bit of pressure. Leah Mannion started the game well and was pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Eventually vale started to come into the game and went close with a roisin Collins effort that was well saved.

Vale won a free kick on the edge of the box. Chloe Lawlor rattled the crossbar and Sarah devine was on hand to mop up the rebound, putting vale 1 up after 16 minutes.

The rest of the 1st half was very even and ended 1 nil to vale.

Vale started the 2nd half strongly and with 47 minutes gone on the clock, Sarah devine got her 2nd of the match with a close range effort ,doubling vale’s lead.

This seemed to wake Burrin up and they started to dominate possession resulting in a goal for Mia Nolan halfway through the 2nd half.

Straight from the kick off vale made it 3-1 with a nice goal from Kate Burke, vale’s top scorer.

In true Burrin fashion they piled more pressure on the vale defence and the excellent Leah Mannion reduced the deficit to 1 goal with 10 minutes left.

Both teams had more chances but the game finished 3-2 to vale.

It was an excellent game and both teams should be very proud.

Best for Burrin Celtic included Isabel cronnin, Eimear Nolan and India mernagh.

The ball home. That goal proved to be the winner but

Joeys were left regreting a final missed opportunity

That saw the ball headed over the bar from close range.

Good to be back after the weather postponed fixtures. Excuse the cliche but this was probably a game of two halves. The teams were nip and tuck until half time where it was 0-0 and Burrin Celtic pulled away to win 4-0 by the end.

Both sides were playing an entertaining passing game. Both keepers were on their toes.

In the second half Burrin got the break through via Ciaran Redmond’s drilled shot. Burrin were getting the upper hand and goals from Glen Cantwell

They carried the momentum into the second half of extra time and went 4-2 up and thought the game was over from here. After a few changes from Burrin here and an unbelievable fighting spirit, the home side looked like they got a new lease of life. Glen Cantwell went Down in the box and got a penalty, which he converted to make it 4-3. With just 4 minutes to go, the man of the match Bill Roberts was through on goal after Ciaran Redmond played the ball through the away side, and Bill slotted it past the keeper.
