Burrin Celtic AFC 0 - 2 Tramore

This was a great game of football with both teams keeping possession really well. Tramore started the better and nearly went 1 up after 10 minutes but Bill Roberts with a brilliant goal line clearance kept the game scoreless. Burrin hit the post in the first half with a chance from Bobby Finn. Both teams went more attacking in the second half with tramore scoring their first after 40 minutes with a nice finish into the corner. Burrin piled the pressure on from here but the keeper wasn’t tested. Tramore scored their second with minutes to go and against the run of play. Burrin can be very proud of how they played.

Man of the match was Burrin’s Colm Donald who did not let Tramore play through the middle.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 1 St Fiacc's AFC

A contender for game of the season in Ballon this morning saw two outstanding teams playing to a very high level. The first half was a tight affair with chances few and far between as the midfield battle between Burrins Una McFarland and Fiaccs Hannah Mathews was a joy to watch then a great chance falling to Fiaccs Ashlee Smith but Abby Keppel in the Burrin goal made an outstanding save to keep the score nil/nil at half time.

The second half saw Burrin start strong with Eimear Bolger leading the line and her hold up play caused problems for the Fiaccs defence.

Midway through the half the ball fell to Lucy Kinsella on the edge of the 18 yard box she took the ball on her right foot then on to her left and drilled the ball into the goal to give Burrin a well deserved one nil lead.

Fiaccs showed their fighting spirit and came back strongly with Ali O Connor showing her quality and their play saw a ball over the top and Hannah Matthews hit a looping shot over the on rushing keeper to make it one all.

Kate Kearns was marshalling her defence brilliantly for Burrin and Anna Cullen fighting for every ball for Burrin to get back into the lead.

With ten minutes left Eimear Bolger, Lucy Kinsella combined to feed Keelie Doyle and she raced through to make it 2-1 to Burrin. A few minutes later another Burrin break saw Sophia Slattery just shoot wide after some great play around the Fiaccs box.

A great game played by both sides and well refereed by Artur Bienko and everyone supporting saw the level of girls soccer in Carlow is at a very high standard.

Best for Burrin Aoife Bergin, Caoimhe Dempsey, Eimear Bolger, Lucy Kinsella and Una McFarland

U16 Girls 14/01 11:00
Vale Wanderers AFC 3 - 2 Burrin Celtic AFC

Vale wanderers and Burrin Celtic girls played out an excellent game in the SuperBowl today. The conditions were unfavorable for a game of soccer with a blustery wind, which Made it very difficult to get the ball down.

Burrin started the game well and dominated the early stages putting vale under a bit of pressure. Leah Mannion started the game well and was pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Eventually vale started to come into the game and went close with a roisin Collins effort that was well saved.

Vale won a free kick on the edge of the box. Chloe Lawlor rattled the crossbar and Sarah devine was on hand to mop up the rebound, putting vale 1 up after 16 minutes.

The rest of the 1st half was very even and ended 1 nil to vale.

Vale started the 2nd half strongly and with 47 minutes gone on the clock, Sarah devine got her 2nd of the match with a close range effort ,doubling vale’s lead.

This seemed to wake Burrin up and they started to dominate possession resulting in a goal for Mia Nolan halfway through the 2nd half.

Straight from the kick off vale made it 3-1 with a nice goal from Kate Burke, vale’s top scorer.

In true Burrin fashion they piled more pressure on the vale defence and the excellent Leah Mannion reduced the deficit to 1 goal with 10 minutes left.

Both teams had more chances but the game finished 3-2 to vale.

It was an excellent game and both teams should be very proud.

Best for Burrin Celtic included Isabel cronnin, Eimear Nolan and India mernagh.

Early start out in Ballon on saturday morning saw

an exciting battle between Celtic & Joeys. Burrin

Celtic dominating the possesion with st josephs posing

A threat on the counter. Following some saves from both

Keepers it was the second half when celtic eventually

Found a way through the Joeys 5 man defence. A switch

Of play that enabled aron kelly to find Edward o Byrne

In the box who neatly side srepped the defender and slot

The ball home. That goal proved to be the winner but

Joeys were left regreting a final missed opportunity

That saw the ball headed over the bar from close range.

Good to be back after the weather postponed fixtures. Excuse the cliche but this was probably a game of two halves. The teams were nip and tuck until half time where it was 0-0 and Burrin Celtic pulled away to win 4-0 by the end.

Both sides were playing an entertaining passing game. Both keepers were on their toes.

In the first half Nurney competed well and had some good passages of play. Both defences remained solid.

In the second half Burrin got the break through via Ciaran Redmond’s drilled shot. Burrin were getting the upper hand and goals from Glen Cantwell

Senan Finn and Joshua Smithers O'Connor followed towards the end.

Nurney battled well, and never gave up. Best for Nurney were Shane Glynn and Cillian Murphy in midfield and Liam Nolan in goal. For Burrin the backs played well, in midfield Senan Finn and Josh Byrne played well with Glenn Cantwell always a threat going forwards.

In the last 16 tie in the south East region of the SFAI trophy, Burrin came out on top after extra time. Both teams played some really good football and made it a very enjoyable match to watch. Clerihan scored their first against the run of play and defended well, forcing burrin to play the ball backwards a number of times. Burrin had enough chances to win this game by 5 goals but just didn’t go their way in the first half after hitting the post a few times, and the Clerihan keeper having a brilliant game. Clerihan scored their second just before half time and started to look more comfortable. Burrin came out a different team in the second half as super sub Tadhg Campbell scoring twice to bring the game to extra time. Extra time was completely dominated from the home side. Ryan Abbey looked like he was going to score a worldie from outside the box after connecting perfectly from a volley but it just going over the bar. The winner came from Bobby Finn after a scramble in the box and he slotted it home to progress Burrin.

The match of the season was Burrin Celtic v Park Rangers in the SFAI Cup. Two well drilled teams met in Burrin on a freezing cold Saturday morning. Glen Cantwell scored a screamer after 10 minutes to put Burrin 1-0 up. The two teams played some really good football and created a lot of chances. Burrin largely dominated the first half and could have scored more. Park Rangers scored their equaliser just before the half time break to make it 1-1 at half time. Burrin came out fighting in the second half and took their chance when Robbie Kelliher put burrin ahead. Both teams played cautiously from here but Park Rangers scored with just a few minutes to go and to bring the game into extra time. The first half of extra time was all the away side and they went 3-2 after 65 minutes. They carried the momentum into the second half of extra time and went 4-2 up and thought the game was over from here. After a few changes from Burrin here and an unbelievable fighting spirit, the home side looked like they got a new lease of life. Glen Cantwell went Down in the box and got a penalty, which he converted to make it 4-3. With just 4 minutes to go, the man of the match Bill Roberts was through on goal after Ciaran Redmond played the ball through the away side, and Bill slotted it past the keeper. Park Rangers thought they won the game after the keeper was off his line and a shot on goal but Sean Dunne with a goal line clearance gave Burrin even more momentum. With just 2 minutes to go, Bobby Finn played the same ball through to Bill Roberts and he slotted it home to progress Burrin to the next round. An absolutely amazing game for both sides, with every player, parent and coach going through so many emotions in the final minutes. Credit to both teams for their performance after a long game. In a great game,of end to end football,a great hard fought battle, with a grain of rice tipping the scale in burrins favour.

The home side had 5 brilliant chances in a 1st half that Ballymurphy had the upper hand, the burrin keeper being kept busy by some great attacking play by the home side, but burrin stuck at it and were strong in defence, and both teams went in 0-0 at the break.

Bally started the 2nd half the way they ended 1st but against the run of play, burrin took the lead,Bally heads didn’t go down and they persevered with great work from Noah fitzpatrick down the wing and the ball in caused some confusion in burrin defence and the ball came off one of the defenders and past the burrin keeper,1-1,but with 3 mins to go,a Bally side line throw was picked up by the burrin striker, who hit the ball and brought a great save From Callum kelly, but an unrushing burrin striker stuck the rebound in the Bally net,and as Bally tried hard for last few mins for the equilizer,it wasn’t to be,and plenty of broken hearts at the final whistle.

Both teams had great team performances and it would be unfair to single out any players in particular
