Hanover Harps 1

Burrin Celtic 0

Hanover set up a winner takes all encounter with Crettyard after ending Burrin's interest in this seasons U16 league. In what was always going to a tight affair chances were scarce in the first half, Celtic's Dylan McCann at centre back and Jack Curran in the goal dealing with anything Harps threw at them. Free kicks from Cillian McGrath and Ronan Quinlan, both saved by Curran the closest Hanover came in the first half. At the other end Jason Brennan dealt well with a series of Burrin corners just before the break. The second half saw a much improved Harps take to the field and within 10 minutes they had 3 glorious chances to open the scoring. Stephen Smyth was first up as his effort came back off the crossbar, a last ditch tackle in the six yard box halted Jack Dunne before a 20 yard drive from Dylan Doyle smashed off the upright. Just as it appeared that Celtic had weathered the storm Cillian MaGrath drove down the wing from left back and fired home from 25 yards to put Hanover ahead with 20 minutes left. Burrin did try to respond but with Kyle Foley, Daniel Rossiter and Mikee Horohan in mean mood they seldom looked like troubling the Harps goal despite the best efforts of Dylan McCann and Mark Canavan as Hanover held on for a vital 3 points thanks to the efforts of Jack Murphy, Jack Begley, Tyris O'Rock and Pablo Sanz.

Burrin Celtic AFC 6 - 0 Hanover Harps AFC
Burrin Celtic won convincingly at home against league leaders Hanover Harps in windy conditions at The Valley. Celtic benefitted from the wind in the first half, keeping their visitors pinned in their own half for long periods. Cian Byrne broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a strike from just inside the box reaching the bottom corner of the Hanover net. Two minutes later, Jamie Behan put his team two up when a corner kick fell to feet in the penalty area and Jamie made no mistake with his finish. A display of skilled free taking followed from Celtic’s centre half, Fionn McCaffrey, as Hanover offences outside the penalty area were punished, resulting in a hat trick to remember for the Burrin Celtic player. Hanover faced an uphill struggle in the second half but to their credit they pressurised Celtic’s defence throughout. However, Celtic players were determined not to concede and they continued to look dangerous on the break. Myles Hutton finished the scoring mid way through the half as he controlled the ball in the box and finished from close range. Best for Burrin Celtic were Lorcan Canavan, Fionn McCaffrey, Jack O’Neill and Cian Brennan. Best for Hanover Harps were Adam McCarron, Bryan McMahon and Alan Geoghegan.

U14 League 19/03 11:00
Nurney Villa AFC 1 - 4 Hanover Harps AFC

A depleted Nurney Villa side had to resort to playing 3 underage players, who all acquitted themselves well - but it was Hanover who started the better and stronger. Nurney were at times playing some neat football and they certainly let their opponents know that they were in a game, as they fought tenaciously for every ball. Hanover went 0-1 up through Jake Murphy, quickly followed by another from Tadgh Dunne for 0-2 and just before half-time Josh Lacken made it 0-3, although, Nurney had a couple of chances that both fell to Brooklyn Dermody, but they were spurned.

In the second - half Nurney had a really good spell that shocked Hanover, as they really gave it a go and with about 15 minutes gone a good run and pass by Brooklyn Dermody released Paidraig Nolan who fired past the Hanover keeper from the edge of the box for 1-3 and all to play for. Try as they might Nurney couldn't managed to get another goal, which would have made the match very interesting and near the end the game was sealed by full-back Ben Crotty who fired home a screamer from all of 30 yards for a final score of 1-4.

Best for hard working Nurney were, Liam Nolan, Padraig Nolan and Mark Dermody, whilst standing out for Hanover were Kyle Khumalo, Edward Hatton and Corey Connolly.
