Vale Wanderers 4-0 Killeshin
U16 Girls 28/01 11:15
Vale Wanderers AFC 4 - 0 Killeshin AFC

The Super Bowl, Leighlinbridge was the venue for this girls U16’s league match between vale wanderers and killeshin.

Big changes to both line ups, meant the game started slow but vale pressurized the ball deep in the Killeshin half and Kate Burke was unlucky not to score. Vale found it hard to beat the very impressive Aoife Mullins in the killeshin goal, who was outstanding throughout the game.

With a few minutes left in the 1st half, vale’s dominance was rewarded, when, after an Indirect free kick, which was saved, Zoe Clarke mopped up the rebound and put vale 1 up at half time.

At the start of the 2nd half, vale made some changes, but still Killeshin showed great spirit and frustrated the vale girls. Katie O’ Reilly was putting in a very solid display in the backs for killeshin.

Eventually Vale doubled their score when Kate Burke found the ball in the box and got it over the line. After that, the game opened up for vale and they started to pass the ball around nicely with Carla Byrne impressing down the right.

Kate Burke’s 2nd of the match came about after she latched onto a long ball out of the Killeshin defence, brought the ball forward and slotted it away nicely into the right bottom corner.

Vale’s made it 4 after some nice play down the right and Kate Burke placed a lovely lob over the Killeshin keeper to get her hat trick for vale.

The game ended 4 nil to the Vale girls.

Killeshin put in a very valiant performance and the signs are there that they are improving from game to game.

Best for killeshin included Aoife Mullin, Katie O’ Reilly and Katie Kehoe.

Best for vale were Zoe Clarke, Sarah Devine Kate Burke and Carla Byrne.

Nurney Villa AFC 4 - 5 Killeshin AFC

The away side opened the scoring before an Ide Nolan goal saw Nurney equalise within minutes. The remainder of the first half was an even affair ,with Nurney failing to trouble the Killeshin goalie despite having parity in midfield ,whilst the visitors had more luck and managed to find the net 3 more times to see them leading by 4 goals to 1 at the break. The second half saw Nurney take command and Natalia Deka scored a brace to see Nurney bring the margin down to the minimum. Killeshin scored their fifth and seemed to be safe but Natalia once again found the net for her hat trick to leave Killeshin nervous for the final few minutes with Nurney pressing for a goal that would give them a share of the points. The away defence held firm however and a very enjoyable game saw Killeshin take all three points.

Apart from their goalscorers ,best for Nurney in a battling performance were Natasha Byrne,Elisa Nolan and Alice Carroll.

Hanover Harps AFC 3 - 1 Killeshin AFC

On a sunny but blustery Saturday afternoon Hanover Harps hosted their first clash with Killeshin in the competition at home in The Plots. It was a nervous start by both teams with neither taking charge of play. Nearly twenty minutes in, Owen Fitzharris gave the home side the lead with a tap into the opposition’s net. From there Hanover had their best period of play of the game. Owen Fitzharris was very unlucky not to get his second goal of the match when a great header just went left of the post. Hanover extend their lead to 3-0 before the end of the first half with goals from Mael O’Rock in the 27th minute and Andrian Robu just before the whistle. There were many scoring opportunities in the second half but it was Killeshin who scored the only goal of the half with Milo Doran scoring a goal from a corner kick. Killeshin pushed hard from there but were unable to register any move scores. Hanover with a sigh of relief take all the points from the clash to stay up near the top of the table.

Best for Hanover: Senan Sheehan,Conor Wall and Mael O Rock

Best for Killeshin: Max Denn, Milo Doran and Fiac Gaffney

New Oak AFC 2 - 3 Killeshin AFC

A clear fresh morning in New Oak saw the clash of two of the top teams in the division with Killeshin coming out with the victory by the finest of margins.

After an evenly matched opening period to the game Killeshin broke the deadlock 10 minutes in with a fine finish following some fine team play. New Oak had a chance to equalise through Emily Carpenter shortly after but her effort hit the side netting.

Killeshin made it 2-0 soon after with a close range finish following some fine play on the right wing.

The second half saw New Oak step up a gear and following some prolonged pressure Emily Carpenter scored a superb goal following a fine solo run. New Oak continued to pressurise and it paid off when Daisy Cooney scored from the spot to make it 2-2. From here the game could have went either way but Killeshin proved to be the victors on the day scoring the winner following some pressure on the New Oak goal.

For New Oak, Katie-Rose Nolan, Emily Carpenter, Kate Murphy, Erin Walker and Cara Shields impressed.

Vale Wanderers AFC 2 - 3 Killeshin AFC

This match was a great game for the neutrals with two closely matched teams playing some lovely football and giving maximum effort. There was very little to separate these sides in the first half, with both sides hitting the woodwork, but a header from Killeshin's James McGrath after 20 mins put Killeshin in front before the break.

Vale didn’t drop their heads and stayed in the fight and came out strong in the second half and a long range effort from Jason Kelly levelled up the match early in the second half. This was followed by a break by Killeshin resulting in Luke Kehoe getting on the end of a through ball to put Killeshin back in front. Credit to Vale they recovered well and deserved the equaliser through a free from outside the box by Diarmuid Redmond. It stayed at 2-2 for much of the second half until a late winner by Cian McNamara secured the points for Killeshin. Vale came agonisingly close to levelling it up in the dying moments when a Shaun Sibanda effort crept narrowly wide of the right post.

A great game played in good spirit made for a nailbiting finish and both teams deserve a lot of credit for their efforts.

Hanover Harps AFC 3 - 1 Killeshin AFC

Hanover started off extremely strong and were in full attack mode. It didn’t take long for the goals to come with power shots from Reece Walker on the 3rd and 12th minute putting Hanover 2-0 up.

Hanover got the 3rd and final goal on the 24th minute after Levi Osaro broke the offside trap and unfortunately for the killeshin keeper who had an amazing game was slightly late with his tackle resulted in a penalty that was perfectly dispatched by Ethan Walker to make it 3-0. Huge respect to the young men from Killeshin as they showed great spirit and never gave up and where rewarded on the 30th minute with a fantastic goal from their number 8. They defending extremely well throughout the second half and kept Hanover to a few half chances.
