Nurney Villa AFC 1 - 5 St Fiacc's AFC
An entertaining game in Nurney saw the visitors come away with a result that does not reflect the hard work that the home side put in defensively all game, but certainly no one can take away from the dominance of the young St Fiaccs ladies throughout the hour. The visitors started brightly and peppered the Nurney goal with shots following long periods of possession. Zara farrell was simply magnificent in the home sides goal and she saved multiple shots throughout the game that would do justice to any league or division. But with all this pressure, St Fiaccs found the net twice in the half from Ally O connor and debutant Lilly Monaghan. They seemed to be cruising but a wonderful surging run from Nurneys impressive Natalia Decka saw her finish past an advancing goalkeeper to leave it 1 2 in favour of St Fiaccs at half time. This seemed to bring a new determination to the visitors but a resolute home defence lead by Hannah Carroll and Holly Murphy held out waves of attacks. Nurney lived on a few break away chances and Gemma Fleming did well to link up with Eimear Craddock and Ella Kearney to create half a chance for them But the goals came for Fiaccs as the pressure told. Oconnor got her 2nd and this was added to by Kathlin Moran and Nicole Osborne to leave the score 5 1 to the visitors at full time. Hanna Kerfah aside from those all ready mentioned was excellent for the visitors.

Parkville vs Nurney

Parkville United AFC 6 - 0 Nurney Villa AFC

Cold wet and windy morning in Hawkins Lane as

Nurney travel to Parkville. The away team played the game with only 10 players, so they were up against it from the get go. It didn’t take Parkville too long to get on the board with Adam Cleary scoring from close range after 5 mins. Dean Keogh made it 2-0 to the home team after 20 minutes, and that’s how it stayed for the first half as Nurney put in a serious defensive display.

Second half saw Parkville pull away with Cian Kinsella scoring 2, on 40 and 45 minutes into the second half. Adam Cleary would complete a Hattrick with Ben Shannon scoring 1 more.

The final score was not a true representation of the game. Nurney did cause problems for Parkville with Tom Kalleward in goal forced to make a few good saves.

A great team performance from Nurney Villas 10 men. Best for Nurney were Callum Kavanagh, David Barron and AJ Dooley.

Good team performance from Parkville with Luke O’Brien, Eoghan O’Sullivan and Cian Kinsella standing out.

Nurney Villa AFC 4 - 3 St Patrick's Boys AFC
A titanic battle in wild conditions in Nurney saw the home side prevail in a 4 3 thriller thanks to a brilliant hat trick from Ben Kelly. The number 9 was a constant thorn in the gallant Pats side. The opening was bright with chances especially for Nurney but rhe couldn't convert. Their wasteful shooting was then punished in quick concession by 2 great break away goals by summer doorley and Jamie cooney to leave St pats up by 2 at the break. The home side played into a strong wind in the second half but Kelly took the first of his goals early on to give them Hope. With Liam Murphy and conor phelan beginning to boss the game more and Danny Murphy in defence, nurney began to create more and it wasn't long before Kelly got his 2nd to equalise. St pats though didn't lie down and Mikey hand and the impressive Thomas lawlor began to get really involved. This pressure saw marcin pawlak finish brilliantly to give them the lead again. Not done, nurney replied soon after with Liam Murphy on target following good work by tadhg Doyle and Brandon searson. There were chances at both ends before man of the match Ben Kelly completed his hat trick past the excellent St pats custodian Liam Moran. A thrilling game and one that both teams can take great heart from going forward.

Vale Hold On For Win Against Nurney
U15 girls 08/01 11:30
Nurney Villa AFC 1 - 2 Vale Wanderers AFC

Played on a heavy, soggy pitch, but in cool sunshine, this was a thrilling and entertaining match played with full commitment from both sides.

Vale started strongly, putting some pressure on Nurney’s defence, where Hannah Carroll and Rebecca Bermingham were excellent. Nurney’s midfield got a foothold on the game, with Sarah Murphy and Nikola Deka making some surging runs, which led to a series of corners for Nurney. However, they were unable to take advantage. Vale’s attackers were causing some problems for Nurney’s defence, particularly on the counterattack, with Roisin Collins on the right wing in particular, being a real threat, with her skill, speed, strength and determination.

It was from a quick counterattack that Vale opened the scoring, with a lovely ball in behind the Nurney defence releasing Kate Burke who reached the ball ahead of the Nurney goalie, Zara Farrell, to slot into the corner.

Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Vale went two up. Kate Burke won the ball from a goal kick, and from just outside the area struck a terrific shot inside the far post for her second goal of the game.

Nurney didn’t allow their heads to drop and came back strongly. Natalia Deka came very close with a well struck effort from just inside the area that flew inches by the post. Some good passing exchanges in Nurney’s midfield led to a goalmouth melee, with Sarah Murphy eventually getting the ball over the line to pull a goal back for Nurney.

Nurney continued pushing forward, with Holly Murphy putting in great work and they went close several times with the excellent Ellen Barrett. Vale, however, were very strong in defence, with Lily Maher in particular, putting in a great shift, and they were a constant threat on the break, with Sarah Devine in midfield and Pia Walsh up front impressing. Vale held on to see out the 2-1 win, and well done to both teams for a terrific match.

Nurney Win
U16 league 08/01 10:00
Nurney Villa AFC 1 - 0 Burrin Celtic AFC
In a hard fought match it was Nurney who would come out on top. Nurney took the lead in the 13th min with a superb finish to the top corner by Eamon Lalor. After this only minor chances were created by either team and most of Burrin's efforts were easily dealt with by Anthony Dermody in the Nurney goal who earned his 1st clean sheet of the year. Despite the best efforts of Lalor, Padraig 0'Brien, Shane Farrell and Cian Meaney to add a 2nd goal they were held out by a solid Burrin defence. Nurney Captain Manus Murphy done an excellent job of protecting his back line in the final quarter when asked to step into the role, stopping multiple attacks. Burrin Celtic came close to the equaliser in the closing minutes from a corner, the ball landed in the small box and with numerous player's from both teams having chances at it, it was some how cleared. The Nurney back line of Josh Kearney, Adam Kelly, Senan Dermody and Arron Coogan had great games to earn the win for Villa.

Burrin Celtic U13 girls narrowly defeated Nurney Villa in this exciting afternoon game at The Valley. Burrin started brightly with Erin Walker and Anna Cullen having early chances to put there team in front. Nurney were a constant threat on the counter attack, forcing an impressive defensive display by Kate Kearns at the centre of Burrin’s defence. Burrin took the lead after 20 minutes when Anna Cullen skilfully created space for herself on the edge of the penalty area and finished well to the goalkeepers left. Minutes later it was 1-1 when Natalia Deka was quickest to react to a through ball and made no mistake with her finish. The second half was closely fought with both sides trying hard to get the upper hand. It was the Burrin girls that eventually did so when Una McFarland’s corner kick fell to Ella Doyle on the six yard line, who struck and unstoppable shot to the Nurney net. The game was exciting to the end, with Burrin just about holding on to take all three points. Alice Carroll, Natalia Deka and Ella Kearney were best for Nurney, while all players on the Burrin team would deserve mention for putting in a determined team effort, with limited numbers available on the day.

The home side secured the points in an entertaining game which saw some cracking goals. Nurney hit the front early when the impressive Ben Kelly opened the scoring early in the half. The home side build on this and Liam Murphy cracked a 2nd in before half time to leave it 2 0 at the break. Killeshin continued to press hard and only for some good saves by Eoghan Murphy, they would have found the net. Indeed both net minders were excellent throughout and the visitors goalie was certainly a contender for man of the match with a string of fine saves and to top it off, a fantastic free kick goal - not content with being a sweeper keeper!. This goal came after Conor Phelan had wrapped up the points with nurneys 3rd goal. The home side saw out the game and Jim Hughes pounced on a loose ball in the area to make the score 4 1 at the final whistle.

Vale opened the scoring after 20 minute with a goal from TJ Darcy and followed up with a 2nd 10 minutes later when Alfie Barcoe hit the back of the net. Vale were looking very comfortable until with 40 minutes gone when Nurney earned a free kick on the left wing and while crossing it into the box a Vale defender dragged Cian Meaney to the ground, for which the ref awarded Nurney a penalty. Cian then calmly slotted it into the bottom corner. Just after the restart Sam Hughes broke into the Vale box and made it all square. Now at 2 all Vale kept their heads and never panicked. They took the lead after 60 minutes with a goal by Keelan Byrne and then Eoin Bambrick added a 4th in the 90th minute to give them the victory. Burrin Celtic Edge Out Nurney

Nurney Villa AFC 0 - 1 Burrin Celtic AFC

Burrin Celtic edged out Nurney in this competitive game played in fine conditions, with both teams giving excellent performances. The game started off at a lively pace, and after 5 minutes, Sarah Murphy of Nurney went on a terrific run down the left-hand side, going past 3 players, that resulted in a fine save by Hannah Hutton in the Burrin Celtic goal with 2 Nurney Villa strikers lurking. Shortly afterwards, Burrin Celtic broke into the left side of the Nurney penalty area, and the shot from a tight angle went just wide.

Both teams were putting some nice moves and touches together, and after 15 min Burrin Celtic worked the ball to the penalty area, and from just inside the right-hand side of the penalty area, Sammy Salter gave a terrific finish to the top of the Nurney goal to put Burrin Celtic ahead.

Both teams continued pushing forward, with Zara Farrell in the Nurney goal and Hannah Hutton for Burrin Celtic both pulling off great saves. Approaching half-time, the lively Natalia Deka for Nurney finally breached the tight Burrin Celtic defence, beating the goalie to the ball, but the ball struck the foot of the post before being scrambled clear for a corner by Burrin.

Both teams battled hard in the second half, and as the half progressed, Nurney pushed forward for an equaliser, but the well organised, determined Burren Celtic defence held firm. The latter had some dangerous counterattacks as the game opened up, but the game finished one nil to Burrin Celtic.

Best for Nurney were Sarah Murphy, Roisin Murphy and Kelly Tobin, with Julia Crawford, Molly Maher and Ellie Byrne starring for Burrin Celtic.

Hanover Harps 11 v 1 Nurney Villa

Hanover came out on top in this game with both teams numbers being affected by a clash of sports. Nurney made the early running in this game and took the lead through a screamer of a free kick taken by Ben Collier. Nurney almost scored a second minutes later with a strike going narrowly wide with Hanover struggling to find their feet. Hanover eventually got a foothold in the game and scored an equaliser when a fine run and cross by Ryan Fitzgerald was volleyed to the net by Jamie Walker. Roland Sanni made it 2-1 with a fine solo run and finish. Jomilio Salvador made it 3 from a Senan Ryan corner. Joel Abu scored a 4th when played in by Jamie Walker. Ryan Fitzgerald then scored a fine header from a Joel Abu corner. Senan Ryan scored a 6th with a left foot finish when a good save by the Nurney fell to his feet. Roland Sanni made it 7 with a strong finish after being played in by Joel Abu. Nurney then lost a defender to injury which didn’t help their cause. Hanover went 8-1 ahead when a Senan Ryan header made its way to the net via a Nurney defender. Mikel scored a 9th with a low drive early in the second half after good work by Jamie Walker. Hugh McDermott was then called in to action to make a good save from another well struck Nurney free kick. Bobby Doyle came on and got Hanover’s 10th getting on the end of a nice pass by Jamie Coakley. Hanover got an 11th when Senan Ryan won possession at the edge of the box and finished with a low drive to the bottom corner. A mixture of wasteful finishing and determined defending by a tiring Nurney side meant the game finished at 11-1.

A good performance all round by the Hanover squad.

Anthony Dermody, Shane Farrell and Manus Murphy showed up strongly for Nurney.

A great morning for a match in Ballon and both teams played their part in an entertaining game played in good spirit and all players very respectful on the pitch.

Nurney fought bravely but an Eimear Bolger goal followed by Anna Cullens hat trick gave Burrin Celtic real energy and Eimear Bolger made it 5 just before half time.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with great pressure from Burrin Celtic and Sophia Slattery made it 6. Another Eimear Bolger strike for her hat trick was followed by a powerful Ava Bolger strike to make it 8-0.
