Burrin Celtic with a strong home win against Slaney Valley
U13 Div 1 03/10 11:15
Burrin Celtic AFC 8 - 2 Slaney Rovers AFC

Burrin Celtic started very strong in this U13 Division 1 fixture against Slaney Valley. After creating a number of chances and being denied by the keeper and the woodwork, Noah Cullen opened the scoring with a fantastic long range effort from 30 yards. Celtic continued to control the midfield and added two more goals through Freddie Gibson and Matthew Drought. Slaney then started coming into the game more and created some openings but could not convert and the half finished with Celtic three nil up.

In the second half Celtic started quickly and were awarded a penalty after Charlie Clarke was brought down in the area. Matthew Drought cooly slotted home from the spot. Edward O'Byrne then made the score five nil to Celtic with a calm finish before an excellent free kick by Craig Burgess got Slaney Valley on the score sheet.

Vale Wanderers AFC Black 1 - 3 Slaney Rovers AFC
This game proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable encounter in the very pleasant Autumn conditions. And although a deserved victory for the away side ensued it proved to be a very evenly contested affair.
The Rathvilly lads started very brightly and did fashion a few early chances but some very good defending by the home side kept the sides level for the opening twenty minutes. As the half wore on however Slaney’s efforts were duly rewarded when Conor Doody scored a nicely taken opening goal. Their lead was extended shortly thereafter when Darragh Corcoran seized upon a loose ball inside the Vale box for a 0-2 half-time score.
Into the second half Vale started to gain momentum with the wind now firmly in their favour. The game now provided for great entertainment as the Vale lads continued to press whilst leaving space behind. And because of this it was Slaney who struck again with Darragh Corcoran securing his second on the 45th minute. Nevertheless, the Vale lads showed great resolve and eventually scored their opening goal through the prolific Alan Fitzgerald. But despite some clever and innovative play by the home team 1-3 proved to be the final score.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable game with Slaney Rovers deservedly taking the spoils. Best for Vale Black were Mikey Dowling, Jack Twomey and Ódhran Murphy while for Slaney defender Cian Weeks put in a man-of-the-match performance.

This game was played in perfect conditions, this allowed both teams to produce some very good soccer on the astro pitch. The girls bossed the game for the first ten minutes but were punished by a very good pass behind their defence that was finished well by Daragh Byrne. The game was very much end to end for the remainder of the first half with both sets of deafenders coming out on top. The opening fifteen minutes of the second half was played at a frantic pace going end to end but again both defences were very mean in passing up any chances. Slaneys second goal was one of perfection, Daragh Corcoran hit the perfect shot from twenty yards to crash off the crossbar and down to settle behind the helpless Amy Farrell in goal. If not for two excellent saves from Farrell vale may have fell further behind. With time running out and the vale girls pushing more forward to get back in the game, again a smart through ball was finished with by luka kavanagh with aplomb. The game finished three nill to a well organised slaney team, but they did not have it all their own way and were pushed in every challenge and open play right to the final whistle by the girls. Even though there was some excellent individual performances It would be hard and unfair to single out any best vale player as this was really a squad performance.
