Vale Wanderers AFC 2 - 0 Slaney Rovers AFC

A very tight affair at lunchtime in a blustery and cold Superbowl today with the home side hoping to build on their first league point of the season v Hanover before the Christmas break and Slaney out for revenge for a close 0-1 loss in the Grading Competition at the start of the season.

The first half was very close and while it was end to end, not too many clear chances were created with Defences and Keepers coming out on top for most of the opening 30 mins.

With 20 mins gone, Vale started to get more of a foothold in the game and won three corners in quick succession.

Even with the increased pressure from the home side, Ryan Kearney still had to be off his line quickly to deal with two through balls from Slaney.

Vale attacked from one of these clearances, winning a corner.

A good delivery from Matthew Jordan was touched home by Bill Hayden to give Vale a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Vale take more control of the game and in the 42nd minute, Jordan again attacked down the wing, cut inside and his shot-cross found the back of the net to double Vale's lead.

7 minutes later Vale were awarded a penalty and Shaun Sibanda stepped up to slot the ball home, however the referee had not blown the whistle and ordered a retake, which Sibanda put to the opposite side but the Slaney keeper second guessed him and saved.

Sean Foley had a goal bound effort cleared off the line but Slaney had their own chances still and Brendan Byrne produced an excellent goal-denying tackle for Vale to keep the away team scoreless.

A deserved 2-0 win - their first of the season in Div1 - for Vale U12s under the guidance of match-day captain Ryan Cummins and Bill Hayden, Bob Phelan & Matthew Jordan who put in excellent performances.

Best three for Slaney were Kallen McCabe, Ella Corcoran & Peter Lawlor.

It was a beautiful day for football down in The Meadows today and both teams didnt disappoint the small crowd at the game with some entertaining football.

It took a while for the deadlock to be broken in the first half and it came from the boot of Mark Buggy from the penalty spot after he was brought down.

HT 1-0

Second half was all Pat's and it didn't take long for Buggy to add a second and then very quickly a third to claim his hat-trick. Pat's dominated the game after that and were rewarded with an exceptional fourth, and goal of the game, by the boot of Shane Gurhy, who ran the second half.

On a fresh winters morning in New Oak, table toppers New Oak took on Slaney Rovers in Div 1. New Oak dominated from first whistle in this contest and led 2 nil by half time, thanks to goals from Kealan Brennan and Ruairi Delaney, before going to score a further 4 goals in the 2nd half without reply.

New Oak were unlucky with score at 0-0 when a Cormac Lowry shot came off the post. But on 4mins, Kealan struck his and New Oaks first with a lovely strike from edge of the box. New Oak kept knocking on the door but Slaney were proving dogged in defence, but on 13mins, Ruairi Delaney got his much deserved goal to make it 2-0 and that's how it stayed until half time.

The 2nd half started again with New Oak pushing forward with wave after wave attacks and 6mins in, Kian Hutton played in Kealan Brennan for his and New Oaks 3rd. Kealan’s hatrick was complete only 2mins later when Jamie McCormack put in a delightful cross from the right for keelan to tap home. Cormac Lowry made it 5 nil 6mins later when the ball deflected out to him on edge of the box where he struck right footed to bottom left hand corner, giving Slaney keeper no chance. Kealan turned provider 5mins later when he crossed into the box from the right for Oisin Rice to score his first and New Oaks 6th of the morning. Slaney Keeper pulled of a great save late on to deny Keelan Brennan his 4th goal of the game and thats how it finished, 6-0 to New Oak, who remain top of the table.

Slaney had great performances from their goalkeeper, Adam curry, Peter Lawlor, Rory Cullen while New Oaks Kayden Dargan, Daniel Custerson and Conor Dooley were impressive.
