Hard-fought comeback for New Oak.

New Oak Boys AFC 2 - 1 St Anne's AFC

St Annes were unlucky not to take the lead early on after hitting the bar twice in the same move.Their main threat was coming from their #11, who had several shots on goal in the first half with New Oak goalkeeper Cathal Kennedy making a string of fine saves. New Oak were however making great progress on the wings notably through some skill full runs from Peter Byrne, and there were close efforts from Arsne Kalinish and Lee Slatery. It was however St Annes who took the lead after some good pressure. It was fittingly their #11 who scored following up on a good save from the New Oak keeper.

Half Time 0-1.

The second half was as hard fought and close as the first, with New Oak #10 and game changer Adam Szczepanski hitting the inside of the post with a fierce strike. St Annes were very unlucky not to score on a few occasions most notably from a huge scramble in the New Oak box leading to a corner.New Oak nearly equalized from a huge kick out from their goalkeeper with the bouncing ball shaving the post. The new Oak equalizer did come from a tackle and finish with the outside the boot from Joseph Custerson, swerving the shot around the St Annes goalkeeper. St Annes could of taken the lead again after a fine shot from their#16, producing another great save from Cathal Kennedy topping off a top performance in goal. The winning goal came from Brian Ferraira, slamming it home top bins after showing a some good skills to create the space to shoot.

This was a great game to watch today in Ballylinan. Two teams well matched.

In the first half the two teams traded chances at either end of the pitch. Alex Mc Donagh in the St Anne's goal was kept busy and Robert Moore, Cian Dunne and Joey Walsh in defence kept their team in the game. It wasn't until the end of the first half when St Anne's Con Murray assisted Mackenzie Mc Ivor who put the ball in the back of the St Pats net. At half time it was 1 nil to St Anne's. Game on.

In the second half St Anne's came out the stronger and the St Pats defence was put under pressure. Shane Comfort, Cian O'Gorman, Adam Dunne and Cian O'Brien in the St Pats defence were great. After 10 minutes St Annes breached the St Patricks defence again when Mackenzie Mc Ivor repaid the favour and assisted Con Murray who found the net. St Patricks boys responded and put St Anne's under pressure. St Patricks were rewarded with a goal when Scott Dunne found the St Anne's net after a corner. St Patricks were back in the game. Unfortunately for St Patricks the come back was short lived. From the kick off St Anne's Cian Dunne played a through ball to Con Murray who found the St Patricks defence napping and put the ball in the back of the net. St Anne's had restored their two goal lead within 40 seconds. It was a hammer blow for St Patricks and they never recovered. St Patricks kept fighting but when St Anne's Daragh Loughman fired home a fourth goal, the match was all over . A hard fought contest right to the end.
