Milltown United AFC 1 - 2 St Anne's AFC

On a morning where the biting January winds were a major factor St Anne’s came away with a 2-1 victory.

Milltown United played the first half with a very strong wind behind them and made all the running with 3 early missed chances. St Anne’s defended stoutly but couldn’t hold out the Milltown danger man, Coady Cahill, who beat the keeper in the 8th minute to put Milltown 1-0 ahead.

Miltown continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t get past the excellent St Anne’s keeper who really kept them in the match.

Just before halftime St Anne’s were awarded a free which was launched into the box where Eoin Kelly managed to get a shot off to score for St Anne’ to leave it all square at the break.

With the wind at their backs St Anne’s now came more into the game and it was Milltown’s turn to show their defensive skills. St Anne’s were creating some good chances and this time it was the Miltown keeper,Emmer Nolan, who was excellently keeping the opposition at bay. Miltown missed two glorious chances to score on the break and were left to rue these misses when St Anne’s were awarded a penalty with 6 minutes left on the clock. Up stepped Dihn Kaye with a well taken penalty to put St Anne’s in the driving seat. 1-2

Despite a frantic final effort from Milltown the couldn’t get the equaliser and St Anne’s held out for the win.

In a fairly even contest best for St Anne’s were Andrew Knowels and Keenan Leonard.

For Miltown United another all round team effort with best on the day going to Liam Murphy, Ciarán Kavanagh and Tomás Doyle.

Parkville United AFC 7 - 2 St Anne's AFC

U12 League Division 2.

Parkville 7 - 2 St Anne’s.

Playing with a strong breeze behind them in Hawkins Lane, Parkville took an early lead when Bradley Cummins finished nicely from close range. It’s was 2 shortly after when Danny Brennan’s corner was deflected into the net off of a St Anne’s defender. On 15 minutes Fiach Byrne broke through the St Anne’s defence with great pace to finish in the bottom corner. It was difficult for St Anne’s to get out with such a strong breeze until winger Ryan Morgan hit a great half volley from the edge of the box forcing Fergal O Toole in the Parkville goal to save with his fists. Shortly after Bradley Cummins added his second and Parkvilles fourth goal. Parkvilles 5th and 6th goals came shortly after with Josh Fitzpatrick from close range and great effort from Taghd Hennessy which went into the top corner.

It was a different game in the 2nd half with St Anne’s now having the strong breeze behind them. They went on the attack straight from the kick off and their efforts were rewarded with a great long range goal from Cian Murphy. More attacks from St Anne’s kept the Parkville defence and keeper very busy. Midway through the half Parkville hit St Anne’s on the break and Fiach Byrne grabbed his second of the game. St Anne’s went on the attack again looking for a second and it came from the penalty spot with a neat finish from Ryan Morgan.

Burrin Celtic AFC 1 - 5 St Anne's AFC
Cold wet and windy made for tough conditions in Ballon today but neither team was deterred from trying to play football, both teams started well but it was St Annes who found their rhythm that bit quicker and put the Burrin defence under pressure, Burrin seemed to be coping well but when the ball broke out to the edge of the box it was struck with venom and left the Burrin keeper with no chance. St Annes doubled their lead 5 minutes later from the penalty spot, Burrin rallied and on a quick counter attack were able to reduce the deficit to leave it 2 1 at half time. Burrin started the second half the better team but for all their possession could not penetrate the St Annes defence, a mix up in the Burrin defence allowed the visitors to make it 3 1 and while Burrin were down to 10 men for 5 minutes St Annes made them pay scoring another 2 goals in quick succession to finish the game 5 1 to St Annes, a very good game of football given the conditions and great credit to both teams for their efforts.
