Competitive game in Tinryland last Saturday morning where the home team started well aided by a strong breeze. St Joseph’s threatened the Slaney goal on several occasions but couldn’t get the opener and both sides went in scoreless at half time. Slaney started the second half the stronger and opened the scoring with an excellent strike after 10 mins. They continued to push for a second but St Joseph’s held out bravely and were unlucky not to get the equaliser in the closing minutes. Game finished with Slaney taking all three points with their centre forward impressing throughout. Best for the home side were Kye Lacey, Thomas Gorman and James McDonnell.

Burrin Celtic AFC 2 - 1 St Joseph's AFC
On a day for kites this match was as the old cilche goes a game of 2 halves. Burrin started against the wind and Joe's used it cleverly to their advantage. But good hands from Ava Bolger kept Joe's at bay on a few accasions but on the 20th minute Lola Long broke the deadlock with a cracker. Burrin responded immediately and a rasper from Leah Mannion leveled the teams. Second half saw Burrin dominate possession and only for great goalkeeping from Ailish Stafford should have pulled away. Abbey Donaghy and Alex Hennessy working doggedly in defence, but great work from Anna Thornton, Julia Crawford, Grace ó Gorman and Caoimhe Dempsey saw Mannion in to finish the play with a neat bottom corner of the net finish. Joe's responded but Sarah Duffy, Emma Klejnowska and Bella Corr were in no mood for losing with great defending to see Celtic over the line. Brilliant play from both teams on a miserable day.

Joeys then went on to win the ball back from Vales tip off & end up with a corner in the 14th min . Lorcan Kelly took this corner , kicking the ball into the back of the net. Cracker of a goal. There was some great passes & saves by both goalies , but at the end of the 1st half the scoring remained 2 nil to Joeys.

Highly anticipated game in Tinryland which didn’t disappoint. Both teams pressed hard for the advantage, with neither side breaking through, resulting in a 0-0 score line at half time. St Joseph’s continued to press forward, encouraged by strong performances from Ryan Gordon, Jamie Doyle, Cathal Purcell, Luke Byrne and Luke Cahill in defence. St Pat’s eventually broke through late in the 2nd half with a very well taken goal by an impressive Mark Buggy. Remainder of the game saw St Joseph’s denied chances to level the score, with the game finishing with only one goal throughout. Captained by Charlie Keogh, St Joseph’s were unfortunate not to find the equaliser with clever play from Evan Kelleher and Liam Ryan.

Vale Wanderers AFC Pink 2 - 2 St Joseph's AFC
With the exception of a cold frosty morning this game was played in perfect conditions on Vales astro pitch. From the first minute this game sparked into life with strong running, last ditch defending and some feisty challenges. All this was very well controlled by Carlow league and vales club lady referee who deserves a special mention. With both teams creating and passing up some chances the opening goal didn't seem to be far away. After fifteen minutes of the first half the game really started to open up, Joeys were starting to take control and were rewarded after a through ball was finished past the excellent Amy Farrell in the vale goal by Mikey Byrne. With confidence growing in the Joeys team they were really pushing for the second goal until Bronagh Nolan got on the ball in midfield and played the perfect pass over the top for the ever present Clodagh Lawlor to volley past the advancing Joeys goalkeeper. This act brought the half time whistle. The second half started much like the first at one hundreth miles per hour, again it was Joeys who were doing the pressing. This pressure paid off and after a well worked team move was finished off from close range by James carpenter. The VALE girls took issue with this and Bronagh Nolan grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, her strong running was now creating her own chances and havoc for the Joeys defence. It was at the end of one of these trade mark runs she passed to Kellie Dermody on the edge of the box, Dermody rifled home with the outside of her right foot low and hard to the Joeys net. Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result. Best for Joeys was Reece Mc Canny. Vale had an outstanding squad performance spearheaded by Bronagh Nolan, Katie Brennan, Alisha Conron and Amy farrell.
