St Patrick's Boys AFC 2 - 3 New Oak Boys AFC

This was a game that had it all.

The weather could have not been better. Cold but that was only for the parents, fans, and coaches. The ground was firm under foot and the sun was shining.

St. Pats knew starting this game that it was going to be tough. The last game between the side saw St. Pat's take the 3 points but today was different as New Oak came with a point to prove and Pat's was a team ravaged by players missing through sickness and injury.

A very competitive game between two eager-to-win teams. The top of the table St. Pats hosted third position New Oak.

New Oak started off very strong, and seemed to catch St Pats on the back foot. They scored a nicely headed ball from a corner kick with just 4 minutes on the clock. St. Pats struggled to find their feet, and 6 minutes after the 1st goal, New Oak managed to net another goal from yet another set piece attack.

St. Pats eventually got into the game and started to pile on the pressure. It took seven minutes for the league’s top goal scorer, Sean Murphy, to give St Pats a glimmer of hope with a cool finish from the edge of the box.

Then, just before half time, St.Pat’s Alfie White brought the scores even with his long range effort that New Oak’s goal keeper couldn’t keep out.

The game moved into the second half where literally both sides kept the pressure on. Yet it was New Oak who managed to get the better of St. Pats with yet another goal from a set piece 15 minutes into the 2nd half.

St. Pats tried to get back into the game, yet just couldn’t find the equaliser. They managed to force 1 or 2 good saves from the New Oak goal keeper, and they even hit the bar on one occasion.

Great game in all, which ended 2:3 to the visitors.

Scorers for New Oak - Oshokha Saliu 2, Stephen Bayley 1. Best for New Oak: Jayden Kelly, Oshokha Saliu and Paul Shaw.

Scorers for St. Pat's: Sean Murphy & Alfie White. Best for St. Pat's: Sean Murphy, Sergio & Alfie White.

Highly anticipated game in Tinryland which didn’t disappoint. Both teams pressed hard for the advantage, with neither side breaking through, resulting in a 0-0 score line at half time. St Joseph’s continued to press forward, encouraged by strong performances from Ryan Gordon, Jamie Doyle, Cathal Purcell, Luke Byrne and Luke Cahill in defence. St Pat’s eventually broke through late in the 2nd half with a very well taken goal by an impressive Mark Buggy. Remainder of the game saw St Joseph’s denied chances to level the score, with the game finishing with only one goal throughout. Captained by Charlie Keogh, St Joseph’s were unfortunate not to find the equaliser with clever play from Evan Kelleher and Liam Ryan.

Tough game
U14 League Div 1 25/01 14:00
St Patrick's Boys AFC 1 - 2 Hanover Harps AFC

What a cracker of a game between two strong teams who are battling for the league title.

The game started as expected, with lots of pace end to end. Both teams created a number of chances, and both teams had the opportunity to go ahead before the break. But neither team were able to break th deadlock, with keeper Ruairc Murray making a magnificent save close to the end of the first half to keep the sides even.

The second half started with the same high tempo, and the league’s top goal scorer, Sean Murphy, managed to break through and kill the silence by hitting the net just a couple of minutes into the second half. Then Pat’s were denided the opportunity to go two a shed with a goal disallowed for off-side.

Then Hanover really began to pile on the pressure, and managed to bring the sides even twenty minutes into the second half.

Just when it seemed like a draw was going to be the end result, Hanover scored anther goal. It appeared that the ball had run over the line for a goal kick, however Hanover managed to slot the ball past the St Pat’s keeper, to make it 1:2 to the visitors at pretty much the last kick of the game.

A super game, with perhaps a few controversial decisions, nonetheless, Hanover come away with the three points to keep the league title chase alive.

No best players as a great performance by both teams.

St Fiaccs 8 St. Pats 0

This game was very even for the first 20 minutes even though the score might not suggest this. St Pats were passing the ball very well and created a few chances. But it wasn’t long before the McEvoy brothers got on the goal sheet. The older brother Ruairi started the scoring with a great finish but it was the younger brother Darragh who shun the most scoring a brilliant hat trick and also putting in a man of the match performance with great work rate throughout the game. St. Pats never gave up and tried their best to get past the Fiaccs defense but with another great performance from Danny Keegan in left-back it wasn’t to be. Alex Donnely Finn added 2 more in the second half. Thomas Lawler & Mikey Hand and 1 each.

Best for St. Pats were

Bests for Fiaccs. Orla Keating, Thomas Lawler & Darragh McEvoy. Best for Pats Kate Culleton and Fionn Daly

St Anne's AFC 4 - 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC

This was a great game to watch today in Ballylinan. Two teams well matched.

In the first half the two teams traded chances at either end of the pitch. Alex Mc Donagh in the St Anne's goal was kept busy and Robert Moore, Cian Dunne and Joey Walsh in defence kept their team in the game. It wasn't until the end of the first half when St Anne's Con Murray assisted Mackenzie Mc Ivor who put the ball in the back of the St Pats net. At half time it was 1 nil to St Anne's. Game on.

In the second half St Anne's came out the stronger and the St Pats defence was put under pressure. Shane Comfort, Cian O'Gorman, Adam Dunne and Cian O'Brien in the St Pats defence were great. After 10 minutes St Annes breached the St Patricks defence again when Mackenzie Mc Ivor repaid the favour and assisted Con Murray who found the net. St Patricks boys responded and put St Anne's under pressure. St Patricks were rewarded with a goal when Scott Dunne found the St Anne's net after a corner. St Patricks were back in the game. From the kick off St Anne's Cian Dunne played a through ball to Con Murray who found the St Patricks defence napping and put the ball in the back of the net. St Anne's had restored their two goal lead within 40 seconds. It was a hammer blow for St Patricks and they never recovered.
