Burrin progress in the SFAI Cup
U13 SFAI 24/09 13:00
Burrin Celtic AFC 6 - 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC

In a first half goal fest, Burrin put 5 past St Pats in the first competitive game of the season. Robbie Kelliher got Burrin ahead after 5 minutes with a cool finish into the corner. The home side continued to press and play wide and totally dominated. Bobby Finn got Burrin’s second after some good build up play. The home defence was very solid and didn’t let any thing get past them, despite St Pats trying to play some good football. Tadhg Campbell got his first of the day to put Burrin 3 up. Sean Dunne put burrin 4 up and seemed to put the game to bed at this stage. Just before half time Glen Cantwell went around the keeper and had an easy tap in to make it 5-0. After the half time break and a few changes from both sides, Pats looked more dominating and scored after a scramble in the box. Tadhg Campbell got his second and Burrin’s 6th just before full time.

A great overall performance from Burrin, but best 3 players were Daire Nolan, Robbie Kelliher and Tadhg Campbell.

Nurney Villa AFC 2 - 2 St Patrick's Boys AFC

This was a great opening game for both teams. It was the first game in Nurney’s new pitch so a bit of history was made. The teams were fairly even. It was good passing football. Nurney went in front first with Oliver Hughes rolling the ball home following a nice dribble.

St Pats came back and put the pressure on. They got their reward with a long distance strike from Angel Gonzalez. It was 1-1 at half time. St pats started the second half well and scored again through Jamel Adegoke. St pats had a few chances but sound goalkeeping from Liam Nolan and defending from Nurney kept them out. Nurney came back into the game in the final quarter. Oliver Hughes popped up again to grab an equaliser just before the end. Great performance by both teams. Nurney had a good team performance with jack Barrett, Aaron O’Brien, Andy Farrell and the afore mentioned Oliver Hughes to the fore. For St Pats MJ haughney played very well in defence, Podge Brennan was a constant threat on the wing. Also good performances from Cailean Mcmaillan and Dylan Doody.

This was a game played under excellent conditions. The sun was shining and no wind.

The game started well fir St. Patrick's Boys who attacked from the start and scored through Alfie White after 5 minutes from a great individual effort.

Four minutes later Sean Murphy doubled St. Patrick's Boys lead from a free kick just outside of the box which he rose fast over the wall and through the goalkeepers hands.

Four minutes later Eric Reyes scored from a well worked pass from Alfie.

Just before the end of the half Josef (Pep) Parres scored from a pass from his Spanish colleagues Eric.

A few minutes into the second half a fast ball into to Eric who passed to Pep, who put ball through goal keepers hands into top left corner.

St. Patrick's Boys started well in the second half against a Burrin Team who reassessed their game and came out fighting.

Not long after a fast break by by Pep and a shot from Eric resulted in another goal. 8-0 St. Patrick's Boys AFC

Charlie McNamara barely on the field took a shot from the edge of the box and scored a fine world class individual goal with about 20 minutes to go.

St. Pats hosted Crettyard on a very hot day. Pats started strong with some very good play from Corie Purcell in the Pats midfield. Crettyard were defending very well in the first 15 mins until Shayne Atkinson opened the scoring with a very good taken goal. Pats started passing the ball and fighting for every ball. David McDonald and Mikey Whelan on the left side linked up great the whole game and it wasn’t long before Pats were 2-0 up when Corie Purcell’s shot hit the back of the net. Crettyard started to attack after this and had some good chances to make it 2-1 but it ended 2-0 to Pats at half time.

Parkville United AFC 1 - 0 St Patrick's Boys AFC
The good weather made for perfect conditions and Parkville and St Pats served up a highly entertaining match. Both sides started on the front foot but with both defences on top goal chances were few. Parkville then took control of midfield and started testing the Pats keeper and went in front after 15 minutes thanks to a good strike from in form Adrian Plonka. The home team kept up the pressure and Luke Mcgrath and Adam Monaghan both went close, but were denied by good goalkeeping from the away keeper. The second half began with Pat's upping the pressure and were denied by some great goalkeeping by Luke Denton. The home side were very short of players but a huge effort from each one of them kept the visitors at bay as Pat's piled on the pressure to get an equalizer. However Parkville held on and some great saves by sub goalie Luke Monaghan gave the Tullow side a good win. Best for St Pats were Thomas Lawlor, Leon Doyle,Ronan Frazer and Jonah Brennan. All 12 players for Parkville were outstanding.
