Vale Comeback stuns Cretty
U16 03/10 10:00
Vale Wanderers AFC 3 - 3 Crettyard United AFC

Crettyard had the majority of chances in the opening quarter & Vale were kept in the game by 2 superb pieces of keeping by Simon McDonald. However hesitant defending twice saw Vale gift the visitors 2 goals as first Tadhg Dineen & then Sean O'Sullivan converted from overturned possession. Vale were struggling to cope with Crettys first style & had limited chances going forward.

The second half saw a much improved Vale create openings but were caught on the break to concede a penalty. Again Simon in the goal came to the rescue to tip the spot kick onto th he post. However Vale were hit on the break again & Cretty went 3 up with a fine finish from just out side the box. The comeback began in the final quarter as Vale pressed forward looking for a foothold in the game. Adam Farrell delivered with a superb 30 yard volley over the keeper into the right of the goal. Vales tails were up & 2 minutes later Charlie Nolan was hauled down in the box. He dusted himself off to convert the spot kick & it was game in for the final 5 minutes. Charlie Nolan went close as a fee on the home sideline from 25 yards out went narrowly over. Cretty were dangerous on the break but Luke Barron was composed at the back. Vales chance came late on as a repeat of Nolan earlier free fell to Sam Murphy to take. His effort bypassed Crettys defence to dip & deceive their keeper & fly in just inside the far post to level the game. Both sides had late surges but the ref blew up to share the spoils with Vale the happier after a Super comeback

Best for Crettyard Tadhg Dineen, Sean O'Sullivan & Jack Gorman. Vales best were Luke Barron, Joey Byrne & Dean Reddy with a man of the match performance by Bobby Daly

Hanover welcomed Vale to the Plots. Hanover applied the pressure from the start and never let up through out the game. Hanover were awarded a free kick just outside the box and John Corcoran stood up to take it in which he found the top left hand corner from his left foot to make 1-0. Shortly afterwards TJ Brennan Brennan made a fantastic run up the left wing to give Jake Burke a through ball and he slotted home for a 2-0 leed. Vale applied the pressure by Alan Fitzgerald who took a shot and just skimmed past the post.

Halftime 2-0

Second half started much the same Hanover never let up and great defensive work by vale kept Hanover at bay. It didn’t take long for TJ Brennan to break down the defence and put a ball through to Arda Destire who made it 3-0. Vale seemed to get a second breath and applied more pressure in the second half and played alot of ball in Hanover’s half but could not find hanovers net. Five minutes to full time whistle Axel

Milltown United and Vale Wanderers played out a very exciting game for the neutrals today. It was a game of two halves dictated by a strong wind. The game was a thriller from start to finish. Playing with the wind in the first half Vale went 1- 0 up when the ref deemed the ball to have crossed the line from an excellent attack by Naoise Brennan. Milltown had a number of chances to go level in the first half and went very close on several occasions. Vale attacked with confidence and got a reward 10 minutes before half time with a well taken goal by Charlie Murphy showing great composure in front of the goal. The score was 2 – 0 to vale at half time.

Milltown United came out with an attack minded formation in the second half and scored within 10 minutes with a superb volley from Declan Nolan. At 2 -1 Milltown attacked with vigour and the Vale goalkeeper pulled off a number of top class saves to deny Milltown the equaliser. The vale defence stood strong and against the run of play scored a third goal curtesy of the hard work from Sam Murphy followed by a very composed finish. Milltown mounted attack after attack and got their reward with 15 minutes to go with a second goal from Declan Nolan to put the game at 3-2. Milltown thought they had drawn level with 5 minutes remaining but the goal was deemed to be offside. The Vale defence stood united and put in a superb effort to hold on to the advantage and run out winners.

The performance from both teams was excellent in a very enjoyable game.

Best for Vale was the whole team.
