New Oak Boys AFC 3 - 0 Vale Wanderers AFC

New Oak maintained their unbeaten run and cemented their place on top of Div 1 with a hard earned 3-0 win over Vale Wanderers at New Oak this afternoon.

Plenty of possession and high pressing was the theme of the game for New Oak in the opening quarter of the game, bu Luke Honeyball kept his side in it with a series of good saves. However, on 19mins, the deadlock was finally broken when the ball broke to Cormac Lowry on edge of the box and his first time shot found the bottom corner of Vales net, making it a deserved 1-0 to New Oak. With continued pressure coming from New Oak when any time out of possession, they came very close to increasing their lead on 26mins, when Cormac Lowrys shot struck the foot of the post. Vale tried to push forward in closing stages of the first half but New Oaks defence stayed strong, and it finished 1-0 at half time.

New Oak immediately pushed forward from the kick off in the search for no2, but it was Vale who got down the field and a shot on goal required New Oak goalkeeper Nigel Coughlan to get down low to his left to save well.

6mins into second half however, New Oak got their deserved 2nd and it was a beautiful ball over the top from Cormac Lowry to Keelan Brennan whose first time shot found the bottom corner. It was tit for tat in midfield after that until 29mins in, a cross from Conor Dooley found Ruarai Delaney in a great goal scoring position but the shot was saved only for it to fall to the onrushing Daniel Custerson who couldn'tiss and made it 3-0, and this how it finished. Well deserved win for New Oak but it was hard fought from start to finish. Vale tried hard throughout and best for them on the day were Brendan Byrne, Logan Coleman, Sean Foley, James Aughney.

Best for New Oak were Cormac Lowry, Fiach Donnolly, Conor Dooley, Zach Kelly & Jamie McCormack.

Vale Wanderers AFC 2 - 0 Slaney Rovers AFC

A very tight affair at lunchtime in a blustery and cold Superbowl today with the home side hoping to build on their first league point of the season v Hanover before the Christmas break and Slaney out for revenge for a close 0-1 loss in the Grading Competition at the start of the season.

The first half was very close and while it was end to end, not too many clear chances were created with Defences and Keepers coming out on top for most of the opening 30 mins.

With 20 mins gone, Vale started to get more of a foothold in the game and won three corners in quick succession.

Even with the increased pressure from the home side, Ryan Kearney still had to be off his line quickly to deal with two through balls from Slaney.

Vale attacked from one of these clearances, winning a corner.

A good delivery from Matthew Jordan was touched home by Bill Hayden to give Vale a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Vale take more control of the game and in the 42nd minute, Jordan again attacked down the wing, cut inside and his shot-cross found the back of the net to double Vale's lead.

7 minutes later Vale were awarded a penalty and Shaun Sibanda stepped up to slot the ball home, however the referee had not blown the whistle and ordered a retake, which Sibanda put to the opposite side but the Slaney keeper second guessed him and saved.

Sean Foley had a goal bound effort cleared off the line but Slaney had their own chances still and Brendan Byrne produced an excellent goal-denying tackle for Vale to keep the away team scoreless.

A deserved 2-0 win - their first of the season in Div1 - for Vale U12s under the guidance of match-day captain Ryan Cummins and Bill Hayden, Bob Phelan & Matthew Jordan who put in excellent performances.

Best three for Slaney were Kallen McCabe, Ella Corcoran & Peter Lawlor.

Half time 0-0

The second half started slowly with vale looking tired but they came back into the half and Alice Hickey was clean through but had strayed offside.

Then with 10 minutes left Nurney broke through the vale defence and Sarah murphy slotted home to give Nurney the lead.

Vale piled on the pressure and nearly scored from a well taken corner which broke to Zoe Clarke and somehow her shot was cleared off the line. Zara Farrell also pulled off a shot that look destined to cross the line.

Straight from tip off Hanover pressured the ball which they got a free kick just outside the 18 yard box and TJ Brennan stood up and made no mistake and put it at the back of the net.

Shortly after Vale got a free and there no 8 Conor Twomey stood up to take it and his shot just passed the post. Vale Hold On For Win Against Nurney
U15 girls 08/01 11:30
Nurney Villa AFC 1 - 2 Vale Wanderers AFC

Played on a heavy, soggy pitch, but in cool sunshine, this was a thrilling and entertaining match played with full commitment from both sides.

Vale started strongly, putting some pressure on Nurney’s defence, where Hannah Carroll and Rebecca Bermingham were excellent. Nurney’s midfield got a foothold on the game, with Sarah Murphy and Nikola Deka making some surging runs, which led to a series of corners for Nurney. However, they were unable to take advantage. Vale’s attackers were causing some problems for Nurney’s defence, particularly on the counterattack, with Roisin Collins on the right wing in particular, being a real threat, with her skill, speed, strength and determination.

It was from a quick counterattack that Vale opened the scoring, with a lovely ball in behind the Nurney defence releasing Kate Burke who reached the ball ahead of the Nurney goalie, Zara Farrell, to slot into the corner.

Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Vale went two up. Kate Burke won the ball from a goal kick, and from just outside the area struck a terrific shot inside the far post for her second goal of the game.

Nurney didn’t allow their heads to drop and came back strongly. Natalia Deka came very close with a well struck effort from just inside the area that flew inches by the post. Some good passing exchanges in Nurney’s midfield led to a goalmouth melee, with Sarah Murphy eventually getting the ball over the line to pull a goal back for Nurney.

Nurney continued pushing forward, with Holly Murphy putting in great work and they went close several times with the excellent Ellen Barrett. Vale, however, were very strong in defence, with Lily Maher in particular, putting in a great shift, and they were a constant threat on the break, with Sarah Devine in midfield and Pia Walsh up front impressing. Vale held on to see out the 2-1 win, and well done to both teams for a terrific match.

Hanover Harps u12s took on a resolute Vale Wanderers in poor conditions on The Plots today. Both teams battled but neither side could string any passes until the 10th minute when Cian Howard found Andrian Robu in space and he slotted in the bottom corner. Hanover applied all of the pressure but Vale equalised on the counter through a well taken finish by Alan Lawlor. Chances were few and the half finished even.

The second half started much the same as both teams battled but again, it was Hanover who had a bit more creativity and tried to break through the stubborn Vale rearguard. Nathaniel Jakubiec's direct ran past the defence resulted in a free kick. Up stepped Diarmuid Redmond who superbly struck but the Vale keeper luke Honeyball who was in fine form tipped it onto the bar and David Dutu was on hand to tap in at the far post. Then as Hanover tried to find a cushion third goal, Vale hit on the counter again with an individual run but Mathew Jordan leaving the Hanover defense standing. Hanover pushed forward with great build up play and appeared to have the ball over the line but unluckily, it wasn't given. Hanover continued to apply the pressure but could not find the back of the net. The game finished in a deserving draw.
