Milltown United and Vale Wanderers played out a very exciting game for the neutrals today. It was a game of two halves dictated by a strong wind. The game was a thriller from start to finish. Playing with the wind in the first half Vale went 1- 0 up when the ref deemed the ball to have crossed the line from an excellent attack by Naoise Brennan. Milltown had a number of chances to go level in the first half and went very close on several occasions. Vale attacked with confidence and got a reward 10 minutes before half time with a well taken goal by Charlie Murphy showing great composure in front of the goal. The score was 2 – 0 to vale at half time.

Milltown United came out with an attack minded formation in the second half and scored within 10 minutes with a superb volley from Declan Nolan. At 2 -1 Milltown attacked with vigour and the Vale goalkeeper pulled off a number of top class saves to deny Milltown the equaliser. Milltown mounted attack after attack and got their reward with 15 minutes to go with a second goal from Declan Nolan to put the game at 3-2. Milltown thought they had drawn level with 5 minutes remaining but the goal was deemed to be offside. The Vale defence stood united and put in a superb effort to hold on to the advantage and run out winners.

Parkville started well and could have had 2 inside the first ten minutes. Vale soaked it up and responded very well joe Comerford first hitting the crossbar and eventually tapping a cross from the right flank into the back of the net after 20 minutes.

The goal seemed to spur Parkville on, the dynamic Cormac Byrne creating a number of chances down the right-wing eventually threaded a perfectly weighted ball to Raul Plaza who showed his exceptional skill to score.

On 27 minutes Niall Kinsella was at the business end of some clever passing play, beat his defender and finished well.

The second half Vales pace again caused Parkville difficulties at the back forcing a number of saves from the excellent Oisin Lyons in Goal. Vale eventually equalised 20 mins into the 2nd through the pace and skill of Jeremy Hai who had been causing problems throughout.

A minute later Oran Kirwan got what he deserved for his clever play and work rate finishing an inviting pass from Matthew Fisher who also had a huge game for Parkville.

Vale battling all the way with exceptional performances from Adam Collins, Joey Byrne and Tadgh O’Neil eventually drew level again in the final minute, through a fine strike from the edge of the box by Charlie Nolan.

Great team performance by Parkville whose pass and move game was a contrast to Vales pace and Power. Parkville’s Jamie Haugh had a rock-solid game coming on as an injury replacement into right back early on.
