Under 16 League. New Oak Boys 6 v Vale Wanderers 1
U16 League 09/11 13:00
New Oak Boys AFC 6 - 1 Vale Wanderers AFC

In blustery conditions New Oak came out on top in a well played game. With conditions tricky it was a scrappy start with neither side able to create much until fifteen minutes in when Evan McEvoy timed his run well and finished to put New Oak ahead. Five minutes later McEvoy added his second with a well-taken goal. Evan Dowling then scored the third after a good save from the Vale keeper. Adam Shaw finished well for New Oaks fourth before Evan Dowling scored his second to make it five. Vale finished the half well and was unlucky when a shot from distance hit the bar before they pulled a goal back from Adian Byrne.

The second half was a quieter affair with both teams playing more possession-based football with chances harder to come by. The only goal of the half came on twenty minutes when Pa Kavanagh headed home James Ryans corner.

Best for New Oak on the day were Ryan Kavanagh, Evan Dowling and Kieran Nolan.

Best for Vale were Kian Hickey and Adam Farrell.

Sallins Celtic 0 - 1 Vale Wanderers AFC

Sallins Celtic 0-1 Vale Wanderers

Vale secured the win with a well taken goal in the opening quarter from Keeva Collins. Vale started the game confidently on the back of a good win against St Anne's last week. Early chances went a begging from Chantelle Kelly & Laura Kearney as the visitors tried to put Sallins on the back foot. Sallins began to gain a foothold as their direct style saw Aoife Roche & Orliath Sawyer tested at the back with Sammy Monahan saving well to deny Sallins their lone effort on target in the first half. Vale struck on 8 minutes as a dominant display in the opening half by Keeva Collins saw her combine well with Jane McDonald before driving a sweet left foot strike low to the Sallins right corner of the net. Collins could have doubled Vales lead 2 minutes later but her effort went wide. Just before the break, a superb solo run out of defence by Orliath Sawyer almost saw her cut through the entire Sallins team only to be denied by a well timed last ditch tackle.

The second half saw Sallins regroup as they put in a much improved display. However both defences dominated as chances were scarce. Laura Kearney had Vales best chance of the half as she was denied by a good save. Keeva Collins had twice broke well down the left with both her efforts off target. Aoife Roche HT roke well from defence but her effort from distance was blocked. Sallins rallied late on & had a couple of close moments to test Vales defence as Chantelle Kelly saved well. A dominant display by Orliath Sawyer & Aoife Roche saw Vale keep a clean sheet to secure the win.

Best for Vale were Keeva Collins, Aoife Roche & player of the match Orliath Sawyer

Bridge Utd 3 - 0 Vale Wanderers AFC

The home side were grateful to take the lead on ten minutes as Vale opened the home defence 3 times with Eibhe Lawler twice & Jane McDonald both denied by the superb home keeper. Bridge took the lead as a counter attack saw their forward turn to square the ball across goal for an easy tap into the empty net by their left winger. However Vale continued to produce good passing as both wingers, Laura Kearney & Keeva Collins, we're both a constant threat. The remainder of the half saw Vale push forward with Bridge hitting on the counter resulting in an end to end game as both keepers produced fine saves.

Vale again played some great flowing passes as they created more openings for Caoimhe O'Sullivan & Emma Byrne but both efforts were wide. Defenders Aoife Roche & Orliath Sawyer broke forward confidently to create chances but again Bridges keeper stood tall. Vales best chance came on 50 minutes as Eibhe Lawler looked sure to score but a super point blank double save denied a deserved Vale goal. Vale visibly tired in the final 10 minutes as Bridge got 2 quality goals, the third being a sweetly struck free kick to the top corner.

Overall the entire Vale team put in a superb performance with Aoife Roche & Orliath Sawyer solid in defence, Eibhe Lawler lively in attack assisted by Caoimhe O'Sullivan & Emma Byrne. The midfield trio of Laura Kearney, Jane McDonald & Keeva Collins the standout performers with Jane McDonald just shading it for the player of the match
