New Oak Boys AFC 1 - 1 St Anne's AFC

A cold morning in New Oak saw 2 evenly matched teams come away with a share of the points.

The first real chance of the game came in the 5th minute to Dara Tunstead when his well hit shot from the edge of the 6 yard box was saved well, low down, by the St Annes keeper, this was after some quick passing in New Oaks midfield by Cody Bryne and Calum Quiqley.

From the resulting corner Calum Quiqley headed just over.

St Annes came into the game causing problems down both wings for New Oak.

On 10 minutes the best of these raids ended up with a lovely effort from the St Annes player hitting the side netting of the New Oak goal which was preceded by great wing play from St Annes.

The game was too and fro until on the 22nd minute St Annes broke the deadlock when 2 players found themselves free in the New Oak penalty area.

Mikey McCarty in the New Oak goal made a valiant effort from the first shot but for the deflection off him to land at the feet of Saran Butle who calmly dispatched the chance.

Dara Tunstead got down the left wing for New Oak numerous times before the half ended but the St Annes defence wouldn’t allow the final pass or shot at goal.

In the 2nd half it took a save from the New Oak keeper, Mikey, on 2 minutes to really get the New Oak going.

On 35 minutes Gabriel De Sa got down the left wing but sliced his right footed shot wide of the goal.

Michael Myk started to make his presence known and was starting to cause St Annes problems down New Oaks right.

His dribbling led to a number of corners.

Eventually, on 40 minutes, one of his crosses broke to Calum Quiqley outside a packed box and with loads to do Quiqley somehow dribbled past a 3 players before striking it low and hard into the bottom right to make it 1 a piece.

New Oak we’re having the better of it now and on 51 minutes the St Annes keeper pulled off the save of the day when he somehow got a strong left hand to a well hit Dara Tunstead shot.

Michael Myk continued to try press for the winner down New Oaks right.

But it was St Annes in the final minutes who put real pressure on the New Oak defence for but to no avail as they stood firm.

Great effort by both teams with Gabriel De Sa, Calum Quiqley and Fionn Brophy doing well for New Oak while best for St Annes were Jack Brophy, Robert Brennan and Corey Davis.
